Summary/Objective:

CHJC’s Director of Facilities is responsible for the overall management and oversight of all facilities, grounds, equipment and maintenance operations. This role involves supervising facilities staff, responding to on-call events—including weather-related incidents—and ensuring all facilities and connected staff uphold the organization's values of safety and permanency, respect and compassion, integrity, excellence, and stewardship. The position will also involve engaging in fundraising events and managing capital improvement projects to enhance the facilities' appearance and functionality. The Director of Facilities is responsible for independent contractor oversight and management of facilities related contracts (e.g., alarm system contracts).

Essential Functions

  • Supervision and Leadership:
    • Provide direct supervision of all facilities staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
    • Develop and implement training programs to ensure staff are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.
    • Manage contracts with external contractors and provide oversight to independent contractors.
  • Facilities Management:
    • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and overall appearance of CHJC Facilities and grounds.
    • Coordinate regular inspections and preventative maintenance schedules to ensure the safety and functionality of all facilities.
    • Responsible for all ground maintenance (including mowing lawns, snow removal, sanding when needed, etc.)
    • Responsible for all building maintenance (including painting, cleaning and general repairs, etc.)
  • Emergency Response:
    • Respond to on-call events, including emergency weather-related incidents, ensuring staff and facilities are adequately supported.
    • Develop and implement emergency response protocols for weather-related and other incidents.
  • Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure all facilities comply with OSHA regulations and local building codes.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OMH/OCF requirements and ensure the organization meets all applicable standards.
    • Responsible for checking fire alarms and fire extinguishers monthly. In accordance with CHJC Policies, facilitates and maintains logs for emergency evacuation drills (e.g., Fire Drills).
    • Checks boilers regularly along with annual boiler inspections.
    • Checks equipment and assets routinely, identifying risks and conducting preventative maintenance.
  • Capital Improvement Projects:
    • Plan, oversee, and manage capital improvement projects, ensuring completion within budget and timeline.
    • Collaborate with contractors and vendors to ensure quality work and adherence to project specifications.
  • Fundraising Participation:
    • Assist in organizing and participating in CHJC fundraising events, such as the annual Golf Tournament, to support the organization's mission and goals.
    • Engage with community partners and donors to promote CHJC’s mission and enhance community relationships.
  • Reporting and Administration:
    • Prepare and maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, budgets, and project timelines.
    • Provide regular reports to senior management regarding facilities status and improvement initiatives.
    • To assist in capital budget development, conduct annual plant inspection.
Special Requirements

Work Environment: Will work outside in all types of weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind. May encounter environmental hazards such as dust, uneven terrain, insects, and wildlife. This environment can involve exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, and the need for strict adherence to safety protocols. Works with little or no supervision.

Equipment: Knowledge of various types of equipment and systems to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of the facilities. This includes office equipment such as personal computers, printers, audio-visual equipment, telephone systems, copiers, and fax machines; maintenance equipment like boilers, fire extinguishers, alarm systems, and other safety equipment; groundskeeping equipment including lawn mowers, snow throwers, gas-powered string trimmers, and other groundskeeping tools; and building systems such as HVAC systems, electrical systems, and plumbing. Proficient in using personal protective equipment (PPE) and understanding safety protocols for handling various equipment. Possess technical skills in operating and maintaining machinery, understanding the mechanics behind electrical systems, HVAC systems, generators, boilers, and computers. Able to identify hazards and respond in crisis situations, ensuring the safety and security of the workplace.

Physical Demands: This role involves lifting 50lbs, operating heavy equipment for snow removal, and performing various tasks that include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing. The director must have the ability to carry tools and supplies, push and pull heavy objects, and operate machinery like snowplows. Mental focus is essential, requiring memory, concentration, and problem-solving skills, while also demanding clear communication through speaking, writing, and reading. Physical tasks like running, driving, and manual dexterity are also key, especially when responding to emergencies or maintaining the facility, all while ensuring safety and efficiency in a dynamic work environment.

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

Full-Time, traditional and non-traditional hours required. Must be flexible to all duties as assigned outside of normal business hours. On-call required. This position is required to work on site.

Travel

Travel is required throughout service area (Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, and St. Lawerence County).

Required Education And Experience

High School graduate. Post secondary trade or vocational school. Five years’ experience in a supervisory position in the trade. Electrical and mechanical aptitude; carpentry, painting, plumbing, building and property maintenance. Requires self-direction, tact, diplomacy, motivation, and a clear, courteous and professional manner when dealing with coworkers and the general public.

Strong organizational abilities and office skills are essential for this position. This person must also have excellent people skills and be a team player. Must be able to work with privileged information in an unbiased and ethical manner. Ability to work with diverse populations. Must demonstrate effective and excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others. Must be detail-oriented and possess excellent time-management skills. Requires self-direction, tact, diplomacy, and the ability to be clear, courteous, and professional. Able to react to change productively and handle other duties as assigned.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Must maintain privacy of confidential information. Successful completion of routine pre-employment requirements as mandated by the New York State Department of Health, Office of Mental Health and Office of Children and Family Services along with ongoing clearances and exclusion checks. These requirements are to include employment health requirements, reference checks, criminal background checks/fingerprinting, State Central Registry clearance and your eligibility to work in the United States. A valid NYS driver’s license required. Corporate Compliance, HIPAA Privacy Security, and Workplace Harassment and Discrimination Training and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, First Aid and CPR will be required following date of hire
