Position Overview: Children’s Home Society of South Dakota is seeking a Full Time Outreach Advocate to establish and provide outreach advocacy services for victims of domestic violence, sexual violence and stalking while also supporting various shelter activities at Children's Home Shelter for Family Safety . What You’ll Do:
- Client Relations: Offer and provide personal advocacy during emergency room exams, law enforcement reports, and/or judicial proceedings. Regularly meet with clients to identify needs, assess strengths and set goals. Provide court advocacy.
- Program & Data Management: Ensure all appropriate documentation and statistical information is completed. Consistently follow grant and program requirements.
- Community Outreach: Promote, develop, and implement education, awareness, and prevention strategies in communities within Shelter for Family Safety service area. Provide public education presentations. Establish relationships with States Attorneys, law enforcement, medical providers and government officials in communities within the Shelter for Family Safety service area. Represent Shelter for Family Safety at various community organizations/meetings, as assigned. Represent the agency in a positive and professional manner.
- Shelter Activities: Respond to crisis telephone calls, in-person crisis counseling, shelter intakes and departures. Respond to the needs of in shelter clients with both scheduled and unscheduled interactions. Perform assigned casework duties. Make appropriate referrals to other service agencies. Transport clients as necessary. Assist in keeping the shelter clean and orderly. Assist with training needs of staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Professional Development: Completed required annual training. Maintain required certifications and proficiencies. Attends required meetings.
- Safety, Policies and Procedures: Ensure safety standards and infection control policies are followed.

Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Education, or Human Services field preferred.
- Experience: Three years’ experience in human services preferred. References that can depict level of interest in working with individuals in crisis situations.
- Licensure: Valid driver’s license preferred.
- Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers and software utilized by the office.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Environment focused on care of individuals in crisis situations. The employee is regularly required to bend and sit on the floor. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to physically restrain a child in ways taught by the Agency while being able to verbally communicate to the child and other staff.
