Position Overview:
The Unit Supervisor plays a vital role in ensuring the effective operation of our psychiatric residential treatment facility (PRTF) for children (ages 4-14) who have experienced trauma and present with emotional and behavioral needs. This position is responsible for staff supervision, scheduling, program implementation, and team collaboration to ensure a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for clients.

What You Will Do:
Leadership & Staff Management
- Ensure staff fulfill the residential milieu and maintain a therapeutic environment aligned with trauma-informed care principles.
- Oversee staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage while maintaining compliance with staffing ratios.
- Supervise, coach, and support residential staff in managing challenging behaviors and implementing interventions.
- Lead team meetings to enhance communication, problem-solving, and coordination among residential staff.
- Facilitate team-building efforts to promote a positive work culture and improve staff retention.
Program & Client Care Coordination
- Collaborate with clinical, medical, and educational departments to ensure comprehensive care planning for clients.
- Monitor staff adherence to policies, procedures, and trauma-informed care practices to maintain a safe and structured environment.
- Provide hands-on support on the floor, modeling best practices in crisis management and de-escalation.
- On-call responsibilities for restraint support and crisis intervention, ensuring staff have guidance during escalated situations.
Hiring, Training & Professional Development
- Lead screening, interviewing, and hiring processes for residential staff.
- Oversee new employee orientation and training, ensuring staff understand their roles and responsibilities.
- Provide ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance staff competency in trauma-informed care, behavioral interventions, and crisis de-escalation.
Quality Improvement & Data Tracking
- Track and analyze key program metrics, such as restraints, incident reports, staff performance, and client progress.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance program effectiveness and client outcomes.
- Ensure policy adherence and recommend improvements based on program needs and best practices.

Requirements
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field.
Experience/Licensure:
- Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Social Work Associate (or ability to obtain licensure within 90 days of employment)
- Medication Certification
- Experience working with children with emotional and behavioral needs.
- Ability to work a varied shift schedule including weekend and evening hours.
Preferred:
- Supervisory experience in a residential, behavioral health, or child welfare setting.
- Experience in trauma-informed care and behavioral interventions.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Residential environment focused on care of children with behavioral issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to physically restrain a child in ways taught by the Agency while being able to verbally communicate to the child and other staff. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
