Job Overview

The House Supervisor assumes responsibility for the operations and supervision of a designated facility accepting the full scope of responsibility delegated by senior leadership/site leadership. The House Supervisor provides oversight, leadership and direction to staff and leaders across the organization through communication, decision making, and effective management of operations to include material resources and staffing.

Qualifications



Education: Bachelor Science Nursing (BSN) degree required.
Experience: Four (4) years of clinical nursing experience required. Pediatric clinical skill/knowledge required.
Required License/Certifications:
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Complete required FEMA Emergency Management Institute Coursework within six months of hire.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers/CPR
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • ANCC or Magnet approved certification preferred

School age - >5yrs to 13yrs
Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs
Adult - >18yrs to 65yrs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.
1. Serves as the onsite administrator and escalation point for hospital Executives and leadership; leads information gathering, communicates to all areas in the hospital, and ensures confidentiality as appropriate.
2. Acts as leadership designee to initiate designated scope of employment actions, e.g., requesting reasonable suspicion drug/alcohol testing, intervening in conflict, and suspending employees from duty.
3. Promotes and informs patient, family, staff, and facility safety by implementing appropriate responses to internal and external disasters or critical incidents. Authorized to activate Incident Command Center, serve as Incident Commander, initiate restricted access, or place facility into lockdown. Assists in managing the ongoing effects of external disasters.
4. Identifies operational issues and determines solutions, communicates, and gains leadership alignment, and implements solutions as appropriate.
5. Consistently monitors implementation of all organizational policies and clinical practice standards; makes recommendations for policy and procedure revisions.
6. Evaluates the need for staffing and capacity related advisories (i.e., trauma divert), and informs decisions on when to implement.
7. Leads daily bed meetings to communicate and facilitate patient progression. Oversees staffing decisions and communicates through rounding to determine staffing needs for optimal patient movement and continuity of care.
8. Supports, advises, and informs leadership of staff assignments and prioritization by frequently performing focused rounding and facilitating resolutions. Collaborates and communicates with all departments and patient portals to facilitate efficient and effective patient flow. Allocates staff to units based upon assessment of needs.
9. Mentors staff, including Associate Clinical Managers and Charge Nurses, through leading by example with communication and collaboration. Gives constructive feedback as needed to encourage development of leadership, escalates performance concerns, and provides input on performance evaluations. In situations where immediate performance concerns are identified, empowered to address situation in the moment to ensure safe and optimal operations.
10. Communicates major hospital change information to staff, physicians, leaders, and key stakeholders. Serves as point of contact for questions and concerns presented by staff; resolves or escalates concerns as appropriate. Investigates patient/family complaints and initiates service recovery and/or deploys resources as appropriate.

Guidelines: Guidelines are in the form of stated goals and objectives for function.
Complexity: Work assignment is unstructured, and leader is responsible for implementing and managing a variety of objectives, resources, and initiatives to achieve the goals of the function. Duties performed include operational planning; developing standards, priorities, guidelines, processes, measurement (evaluation) systems; implementation of production and performance management standards; and allocating resources. Work is tactical and operational in nature.
Decision Making: Employee is responsible for planning, organizing, allocating resources, ensuring compliance with procedures, and achieving the objectives of the function.
Communication: Communication at this level is primarily internally focused and involves establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with team members, peers, directors, and executives. Provides guidance and interpretation of the enterprise’s policies, procedures, and standards. Provides information to higher-level directors and executives.
Supervision Received: Responsible for achieving the objectives of function within the scope of established guidelines. Employee is expected to resolve problems that arise in the normal course of the work. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and feasibility of decisions.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $87,929.81 to $131,894.71
Hourly Salary Range: $42.27 to $63.41
