Job Overview
The Senior Genomics Automation Specialist is an integral part of the Children's Hospital Colorado Precision Diagnostics Laboratory team. Advancing the laboratory operations efficiency by designing and creating new automation programs on current equipment to meet evolving needs for current and new protocols and scaling sample throughput. Supports and assists with designing, planning, testing, implementing, maintenance, problem solving, documenting, and developing software code, standards, principles, and practices.

Shift: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, work hours may vary based on the needs of the department. With the potential to support weekend and holiday staffing hours as needed.

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $90,900.58 to $136,350.88
Hourly Salary Range: $43.70 to $65.55

- This is a hybrid role
- EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Engineering or related field, technology from an accredited institution.
- EXPERIENCE: Eight (8) years working in a high complexity clinical laboratory, as a Medical Technologist, Application Scientist or Automation Engineer.
- Six (6) years of demonstrated experience with assay automation and/or next generation sequencing technologies highly preferred.
- EQUIVALENCY: EQUIVALENCY: Master’s Degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Engineering or related field may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.¿ P.H.D in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Engineering or related field may substitute for four (4) years of the required experience.

Essential Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential functions. These examples do not include all the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.
- Proven experience in analyzing, designing, building, modifying, implementing, testing, and debugging new or automated assays, testing platforms, and systems/systems integration to increase scale and efficiencies in the laboratories, as applicable.
- Prepares timelines, project plans and flow charts for the development or enhancement of new and existing automated protocols across instrumentation and software systems. Candidate should have program management expertise in the life sciences field.
- Calibrate, maintain, and repair a variety of laboratory instrument workflows and integration dependencies, including liquid handling robotics, provide real-time support for automated equipment during live runs. Experience documenting appropriate repair and calibration specifications in a regulated environment.
- Trains end user on instrument use and automated protocols, collaborates with the innovation team on programming, process design, and end to end laboratory automation integration.
- Trains and assists with gathering, analyzing and documenting business and user requirements, functional requirements, and data specifications. Trains in designing, writing, and documenting technical specifications to design or redesign applications.
- Responsible for evaluating, planning, designing, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining application development efforts and/or reports. Works with applications staff to translate and document user needs and system requirements into report specification and/or technical documents. Integrates data between multiple systems for reporting as necessary.
- Experience with performing liquid handling robotics tuning and configuring, developing backup and recovery processes during live runs, and coordinates system upgrades, service contracts, and preventative maintenance.
- Experience with writing stored procedures, packages, and/or functions. Ensure code is written and controlled in alignment with departmental specifications.
- Identify and investigate relevant automation platforms, industry advances, and equipment, to contribute to new systems designs and development and deployment into operational laboratory.
- Extensive experience in analytical automation technology and various vendor analytical platforms, liquid handling, and sample handling systems.
- Mentor and trains junior staff to support operational needs and enabling troubleshooting and self-resolution of automation problems as appropriate.
- Participates in Production Support on-call rotation as necessary.
