A Brief Overview
Responsible for assisting the physician in caring for the patient and family in accordance with organization's protocols, policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Assists in the assessment of the health status of individuals including the delivery of patient care to patients and families under the direction of RN or LPN.
- Demonstrates knowledge and delivers suitable care tailored to the corresponding stage of the life cycle.
- Prepares patients for examination by performing routine patient screenings.
- Communicates completion of tasks, and significant abnormalities or clinical changes.
- Documentation is accurate, per clinic standard, and completed in real time.
- Assists providers with exams when necessary.
- Collects phlebotomy and other lab specimens based on department need.
- Performs treatments, procedures, diagnostic / lab testing per protocol and / or order.
- Performs medication administration specific to area of assignment.
- Facilitates registration and utilization of organization's health portal with patients and families.
- Performs other specialty tasks / procedures specific to area of assignment.
- Assists with medication refills based on protocol in specific specialty area.
- Communicates in a compassionate manner and uses medical terminology appropriately.
- Complies with performance improvement practices.
- Facilitates patient flow in clinic by monitoring patient volumes throughout the clinic day.
- Uses good time management and creative thinking when clinic is busy; ensuring patients are informed of any delays.
- Offers resources to patients and families, such as toys, coloring, etc., while in the exam room.
- Ensures exam rooms are clean and ready for the next patient, using the proper disinfectant between patients.
- Maintains supplies in exam rooms and re-stocks items as needed. Collects data regarding patient's vital signs and growth and development when interviewing patients / families in the office.
- Coordinates the scheduling of diagnostic tests and procedures with the patient / family, physicians / hospitals and the insurance companies as directed by the provider.
- Assists the physician or nurse practitioner in patient teaching as directed or according to clinic protocol.
- Completes all required patient care documentation and reporting in accurate and timely manner within the electronic medical record.
- Responds appropriately in crisis situations or life threatening emergencies.
- Takes direction from the physician or nurse practitioner in the delivery on patient care.
- Assists with clerical duties as directed by the office manager.
- Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
