A Brief Overview
Performs a variety of preparatory, scrubbing and related duties necessary to provide patient care in the Operating Room. Assist with surgical cases in all surgical specialties.
Essential Functions
- Reviews case cart and preference card before each case. Prepares the operating room by supplying it with supplies and instruments to provide appropriate patient care
- Sets up and maintains the sterile field during the procedure using strict aseptic technique
- Prepares and labels fluids and medications on sterile field
- Performs appropriate counts prior to the operation and before incision is closed.
- Participates in time out / sign out process
- Scrubs to assist the surgeon in the completion of surgical procedures by demonstrating a working knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment needed for a variety of procedures.
- Anticipates the needs of the surgeon, passing instruments and providing sterile items in an efficient manner, as directed by the surgeon / proceduralist.
- Implements sharps safety practices including use of a safety zone.
- Prepares specimens for pathologic analysis
- Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization
- Assists operating room team with environmental cleaning and case turnovers.
- Stores and stocks supplies as needed
- Participates in assigned on call activities.
- Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
