A Brief Overview

The Industrial Hygienist supports the Industrial Hygiene programs for the Hospital and Care Network. They have a strong skill set and knowledge base in a variety of areas within industrial hygiene and how they relate to employee safety. The Industrial Hygienist is responsible for interacting with staff regarding their workplace safety and health concerns, assisting in creating a safe work environment for all staff, and helping the organization maintain compliance with regulatory standards. Advanced knowledge and skills within areas of Industrial Hygiene will continued to be developed within this is role.

What You Will Do

  • Supports the Industrial Hygiene Program for the Hospital and Care Network:
  • Coordinate, complete, and follow up on all personal chemical air monitoring for the Hospital and Care Network, based on requirements or concerns.
  • Perform, lead, and follow up on indoor air quality investigations.
  • Conducts special monitoring of selected aspects of various programs, including study methodology, data collection, and analysis techniques.
  • Prepares reports detailing data obtained from performing personal and area air monitoring.
  • Complete oversight of the industrial hygiene equipment, including inventory, annual calibration, repair, training, and weekly maintenance.
  • Performs risk assessments for staff exposure to chemical and/or biological agents.
  • Participates in the clinical laboratory safety and health program including safety surveys, risk assessments, audits, and responding to staff concerns.
  • Perform noise, light, slip testing, and other industrial hygiene related topical surveys as necessary.
  • Provides support for the respiratory protection and personal protective equipment programs.
  • Participates in departmental activities, including on-call, hazardous chemical spill response, bioresponse team activations, environment of care rounds, and emergent event responses.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable local and federal regulations.
  • Supports the Ergonomic Program for the Hospital and Care Network:
  • Provides workplace risk assessments, assess work environments, analyze how employees use either the equipment currently provided or new equipment, and use assessment results to identify areas for improvement.
  • Recognizes repetitive motions or extreme physical stress in workplaces that can result in musculoskeletal issues and other health concerns and determines what aspects within employee environments affect job performance, or safety recommending solutions to provide increased comfort and decreased physical strain, or risk of hazards while on the job.
  • Provide educational opportunities and outreach to other departments and employees to communicate and spread awareness about ergonomics.
  • Participates in departmental activities, including on-call, hazardous chemical spill response, bioresponse team activations, environment of care rounds, and emergent event responses.
  • Maintains Policy and Procedure updates as required through policy manager.
  • Maintains continuing education for certifications which includes professional training and development.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required

Experience Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years industrial hygiene/occupational safety Required
  • At least three (3) years industrial hygiene/occupational safety Preferred

Skills And Abilities

  • Working knowledge of Knowledge of OSHA, NIOSH, and ACGIH regulations and recommendations.
  • Experience with personal protective equipment
  • Experienced trainer for adult learners.
  • Demonstrates analytical ability and strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Medically cleared to wear Level B personal protective equipment
  • Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) 24 or 40 hours training by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or within 180 days of placement into position
  • Intermediate proficiency with office software (Microsoft Office)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to gather, analyze and make recommendations/decisions based on data

  • Ability to influence others to accomplish tasks outside of the direct span of control

Licenses and Certifications

  • Haz Waste Ops & ER 24 or 40 hour - Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) - upon hire - Preferred or
  • Certified Healthcare Environmental Manager (CHEM) - ECRI Institute - upon hire - Preferred or
  • Certified Professional Ergonomist - Office Educator - upon hire - Preferred
