About The Laboratory
The post-doctoral fellow will assume responsibility for an on-going research project the under the guidance of the principal investigator, Dr. John H. Wolfe. The projects are funded by NIH grants. It is expected that the post-doc will conduct independent scholarly research and will contribute directly to the overall research goals of the project and the research group. Post-docs have opportunities to develop new methods and protocols for research and assist with the development of other research projects in the lab. Post-docs may also have opportunities to supervise junior lab members and expand their supervisory and laboratory management skills. CHOP and UPenn offer an array of courses and seminars designed to enhance career development as fellows progress through their post-doc years.
The specific research involves development of AAV-based gene therapy and the development of stem cell replacement approaches for central nervous system diseases. Post-docs will be expected to participate in project planning, recording and interpretation/evaluation of data, and communication of results. They will participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentations at national meetings. Postdocs will acquire new technical and manuscript/grant writing skills. Responsibilities
- Participate in project planning, recording, and evaluation of data.
- Conduct independent scholarly research, developing new methods and protocols under the guidance of a mentor (principal investigator).
- Acquire technical, lab management, and grant writing skills.
- Participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions, national presentations, and professional workshops.
- Supervise junior lab members.
- Assist with other research projects as needed.
- Required: Doctorate
- PhD in relevant area: molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, gene transfer vectors, production and analysis of stem cells, translational medicine.
