A Brief Overview

The Sgourakis Laboratory at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and University of Pennsylvania is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician I to join our innovative research team. Our laboratory specializes in protein biochemistry and molecular immunology, conducting cutting-edge research at the intersection of structural biology and immunology

What You Will Do

  • Execute protein expression and purification protocols using bacterial and insect cell systems
  • Perform molecular biology techniques including cloning and biochemical assays
  • Prepare protein samples for advanced biophysical studies
  • Maintain comprehensive laboratory records and documentation
  • Manage laboratory inventory and prepare common reagents
  • Participate in weekly laboratory meetings and contribute to team discussions
  • Support the development and optimization of new experimental protocols

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or related field preferred.

Experience Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program (eg. Wistar, WPSI) and research laboratory experience Required
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with protein biochemistry techniques
  • Proven expertise in molecular biology methodologies
  • Strong documentation and record-keeping abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Skills And Abilities

  • Experience with protein expression systems (E. coli)
  • -Familiarity with insect cell culture (Sf9, S2)
  • Proficiency in standard biochemical assays
  • Basic computational skills for data analysis
