Summary

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The Mental Health Program Lead (LCSW or LPC) will provide evidenced based treatment to children and families as well as possess the leadership and public speaking skills required to train hospital staff and develop/implement innovative mental health programing. The Mental Health Program Lead will be well versed in utilizing evidenced based approaches in assessment and therapeutic interventions for children. As a clinical leader and mental health expert within CHKD, the Mental Health Program Lead plays an active role in the training and educating non-mental health CHKD employees and of other members of the treatment team in identification and role-appropriate interventions of mental disorders. The Mental Health Program Lead, in coordination with mental health leadership, is tasked with developing and overseeing implementation of new clinical programs and program protocols. In addition, this role requires provision of psycho-education to families and consultation with school personnel and other behavioral health professionals. Reports to the Manager of Clinical Programming and Operations.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Provision of Clinical Care
      • Conducts mental health evaluation, develops a treatment plan and provides evidenced based therapies to children with mental health conditions and, potentially, co-occurring acute or chronic illness, trauma, or disability. Completes comprehensive report on all of the above for review by broader treatment team (such as treating MD referral source).
      • Ensures comprehensive assessment and recommended treatment plan are submitted for reimbursement to third party insurance payer sources based on established guidelines.
      • Obtains outcome measures, through use of psychometric tools, and shares data on patient progress with collaborating physicians and to track clinical trends.
    • Training of Professionals
      • Acts as an advocate and mental health educator to the child’s primary support group, to include the child’s primary care and specialty doctor, parental unit, educational system, legal system, and other parties invested in child’s care.
      • Provides training and demonstration of clinical skills to mental health and non-mental health CHKD staff (nursing, behavioral health techs, medical staff), as well as community stakeholders (school systems, non-profit boards of directors).
      • Demonstrates leadership and confidence in engaging stakeholders in programmatic mission (mental health early intervention, use of innovative treatments, value of integrating with broader medical system).
    • Development and Implementation of Programs
      • Assists mental health leadership in the development and implementation of new treatment protocols.
      • Translates treatment protocols into recommendations that are easily understood by mental health and non-mental health staff alike.
      • Monitors implementation of new treatment procedures to ensure fidelity to evidenced based treatment and feasibility of treatment with broader program trends.
      • Assists with quality improvement efforts and potential research opportunities.
    • Other
      • May function in an on-call capacity as necessary to meet the needs of the organization.
      • Travel to offsite locations may be required.
      • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Current Virginia clinical license.
    • Certification in any of the below evidenced-based modalities preferred, advanced training in modalities also considered: Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Based Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Graduate of an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Mental Health or related field.
    • At minimum, four years of post-license related work experience preferred.
    • Experience with implementing evidence-based treatments with children and families required.
    • Notable experience with public speaking and training of professional staff.
    • Increased Security Clearance Required for Job Roles in Medical Tower II: FBI fingerprinting, criminal background check, and Child Protective Services registry search.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
