Children’s Mercy Graduate Medical Education is a centralized department responsible for Undergraduate Medical Education (UME), Graduate Medical Education (GME) and Continuing Medical Education (CME). The department establishes, implements and enforces training policies and procedures, supervise the process of program accreditation and provides oversight of a respectful and supportive Resident / Fellow learning and working environment that facilitates patient safety, health care quality and achievement of competence.
Internally, professional development is provided to faculty and others through the Office of Faculty Development . Library Services assures access the latest medical literature to support clinical decisions and research.
Job responsibilities include :
- Provide program oversight and serve as Chair of GMEC to ensure trainee program success and accreditation compliance and conducting focused reviews when required.
- Establish and uphold policies for training programs and present the Annual Institutional review to hospital leadership each year.
- Oversee and support curriculum development and delivery for learners along the continuum.
- Assist programs in recruitment of a diverse and high-quality workforce and interact with online systems ADS / NRMP / ERAS as required of the DIO.
- Engage with trainees through the orientation, curriculum, and graduation processes and support struggling learners when needed.
- Coach and mentor program directors as well as GME medical directors of DEI, Global Health, QI, and Advocacy.
- Provide guidance to OFD, CME and Library Services directors and medical directors including engaging in programs like the promotion process and the Clinical Advances in Pediatrics Symposium, and escalating issues when required.
- Teach clinically, mentor learners and produce scholarship.
- Represent and advocate for medical education with hospital leadership and engaging with other Chairs about mutual and overlapping initiatives.
- Represent GME and CM in the recruitment of faculty and philanthropic donors.
- Assist the Vice Chair / Sr. Administrative Director with department operations and supervision of the departments’ 32 professional staff, 250 trainees and $28 million budget.
- Represent the UMKC School of Medicine.
- Sit on UMKC Coordinating Council, participating in School governance, and ensuring hospital compliance with school policies.
- Support the medical student team with oversight of clerkship and other educational opportunities.
- Create and maintain a positive learning environment for medical students and visiting residents.

Physician candidates should be board-certified or board-eligible in their respective clinical field. PhD Salary and academic rank are commensurate with experience. Academic appointment will be at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. An additional appointment at the University of Kansas will be acquired if appropriate.
