What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Day Camp Counselor position at Children's Museum of Jacksonville, Inc.?
Camp Counselor will perform a variety of tasks in a summer camp setting including STEM/Science programs, arts and crafts, recreation activities, games, etc.
Schedule
July 8-12, July 22-26, August 5-9; 8am- 5pm each day. Training dates will be scheduled once hired; 1 per month in April, May, June and then 1 day each week prior to the week of camp. These are mandatory. If you cannot commit to all days, you are ineligible for this position.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assists lead counselor with activities such as programs, arts, crafts, games, etc.
- Enforces camp rules and regulations and ensures safety in the facility.
- Demonstrates use of equipment and teaches participants the principles, techniques, and safety procedures for each activity.
- Greets new arrivals and introduces them to other campers; explains camp and facility rules.
- Reports camper complaints to leadership and works to resolve issues.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- No supervisory responsibilities
Required Skills/Abilities
- Enthusiastic and positive attitude.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to learn and enforce the camps safety and operating rules.
- Exhibit patience and understanding in communicating and managing children 10 years and under.
- Must attend staff meetings and orientation during the summer season.
Education and Experience
- Previous experience working with children preferred, but not required.
- If over the age of 18, must pass reference checks and background screenings.
Physical Requirements
- Able to participate in programs, activities, games, and physical activities.
- Able to maintain attention and high level of energy or excitement for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to spend part of the of time outdoors and tolerate a variety of weather conditions.
Compensation
$12-15/hr dependent upon experience. This is a contract position.
