What are the responsibilities and job description for the Museum Educator position at Children's Museum of Oswego?
Museum Educator: 25-35 hours/week starting pay of $16.25/hour
CMOO is looking for an energetic, fun-loving individual to join our team as a Museum Educator. This person will assist with the planning and development, set up, facilitation, and clean up of programming. This person will facilitate existing programs (Pop-Up Planetarium, Summer at CMOO) and will help to create new, developmentally appropriate, and engaging programs for CMOO visitors at the museum and at offsite events.
The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys being part of a small team, who is knowledgeable about or interested in learning more about play-based learning, and who is comfortable interacting with both children and adults. Flexible schedule, but must have ability to work 2-3 weekends a month.
This position will require working some community events and outreach support, and occasional evening hours for special events. Reliable transportation is a must. Must have experience working with children under the age of 12. Previous frontline customer service experience preferred. Experience with working with children is a must.
Responsibilities include:
- Facilitate and initiate interactions with children and adults to deepen their learning experiences during exhibit play.
- Orient guests to the museum, answer questions, and provide up-to-date information on museum. programming, events and activities.
- Greet and interact positively with guests and field trip groups.
- Support programming and special events.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of CMOO’s mission, philosophy, policies and procedures. Remind guests of museum policies when needed.
- Run register, sell gift shop items and memberships, check in guests.
- Perform daily opening and closing duties throughout the museum, including routine cleaning and preparation of programming materials.
- Participate in staff meetings and trainings.
Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with children in recreational settings, after-school.
- programs, or classrooms desired.
- Experience working with diverse audiences.
- Reading, writing and communication skills sufficient to communicate with guests and other museum staff.
- Able to respond to emergency situations in a calm and comforting manner.
- Experience that demonstrates self-motivation, initiative, energy, creativity, and punctuality.Competencies:
