Cleaning associates perform porter, cleaning and janitorial duties throughout the facility. Cleaners are primarily responsible for cleaning museum buildings, including vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, cleaning and restocking restrooms and cleaning supply areas as needed. The cleanliness and appearance of the Museum are critical to the success of the museum.

Cleaning associates perform porter, cleaning and janitorial duties throughout the facility. Cleaners are primarily responsible for cleaning museum buildings, including vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, cleaning and restocking restrooms and cleaning supply areas as needed. The cleanliness and appearance of the Museum are critical to the success of the museum.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Essential Job Duties
- Clean, sanitize and restock restrooms throughout the shift as required
- Respond to spills, accidents and other immediate cleaning needs
- Empty trash and recycling throughout the day
- Sweep debris as needed both inside and outside museum buildings
- Responsible for clean-up, decontamination, and disposal of bodily fluids on an as needed basis. Follows all safety procedures related to this task.
- Responsible for cleaning restrooms as per work scope outlined by Facility manager.
- Sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs, using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines. Sometimes using ladders, dusts and washes walls, cleans ceilings and dusts and polishes light fixtures. Spot carpet clean as directed.
- May remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
- Empty trash and recycling as directed.
- Clean windows as directed.
- Understand and be able to perform emergency procedures (i.e. fire evacuation, accident reporting).
- Assist in receiving and restocking cleaning supplies.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of high school diploma
- Previous commercial cleaning experience preferred but not required

- Consistency and attentiveness
- Employee can expect to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Moves throughout the museum, on a regular basis to clean
- Lifting of heavier objects (such as furniture) may be done occasionally and may be performed with assistance. Position includes climbing, ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
Work Environment, Hours Of Work, And Travel Requirements
- Hours of work will be between 30 - 35 per week.
- Position will require weekend availability and occasional evening hours depending on the shift.
- Essential duties of this position will be performed in a museum environment, which includes interaction with the public and exposure to children and families.
- FBI fingerprint, PA Child Abuse History Certificate (Act 33) and PA State Criminal Record Check (Act 34) are required.
