Position Summary
The Summer Camp Associate supports and organizes daily summer camp operations to ensure camp experiences inspire kindness, joy, creativity and curiosity for all learners. The Summer Camp Associate works primarily with campers 4-13 years old and their caregivers to provide a safe and welcoming camp environment. Experience working both on a team and independently with a diverse audience is required to ensure a vibrant, enriching, and essential experience of the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh. This is a temporary position.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Interns
Essential Job Duties
- Works with the Summer Camp Manager to create and deliver child-centered camp experiences that nurture kindness, joy, creativity and curiosity.
- Maintains and updates camp records and camper information sheets on a weekly basis.
- Checks campers into and out of camp each day.
- Monitors campers aged 4-13 during their lunch and play periods.
- Confirms and coordinates camper lunch pickup from Museum café.
- Communicates camper's individual needs such as allergies and accommodations to Camp Staff.
- Provides classroom management and supervision in exhibit spaces as needed.
- Offers 1-on-1 behavioral support for campers as needed.
- Coordinates early pick-ups and late drop-offs.
- Checks in with Camp Educators about needs and support on daily basis.
- Provides consistent communication with caregivers through email, phone calls and in-person updates.
- Demonstrates clear understanding of Camp Safety and Emergency Procedures.
- Assists with tidying programming spaces at the end of each day, and resetting classrooms at the end of each week for weekend programming.
- Organizes and maintains material storage for camps.
- Takes photos for camp documentation.
- Assists with data collection as needed.
- Is familiar with museum spaces.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- College Education or work experience in a related field (e.g. childcare, education, fine art, creative art, interactive media, theater, guest services. etc.) preferred.
- Work experience in a related field (e.g. fine art, creative art, interactive media, theatrical arts, informal/out-of-school or inquiry-based teaching, education, etc.) required. Experience in camp instruction and/or administration strongly preferred.
- 2 years' experience working with children required.
- Additional experience with families, educators, administrators and creative peers strongly preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills, flexible thinking and ability to adjust expectations and actions as needed.
- Commitment to continued learning for both personal and team growth.
- Daily interest and enthusiasm for working with children, youth and multi-generational groups required.
- Ability to remain calm and professional as challenges arise.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Walking, Standing, Bending, Kneeling, and Sitting: The duties and responsibilities associated with this position will require movement throughout the museum spaces to interact with visitors, educators, and to activate museum experiences.
- Verbal Communication: This position frequently communicates with visitors while facilitating museum experiences. The Camp Associate will be expected to exchange accurate and helpful information, and communicate issues to team members and supervisors.
- Lifting: Occasional lifting and moving of furniture, equipment, and supplies weighing up to approximately 50 lbs. Regular lifting of items under 15 lbs.
- Manual Dexterity: The Camp Associate may operate various equipment, including but not limited to power tools, utility knives, etc.
Work Environment, Hours Of Work, And Travel Requirements
- Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. Ability to be on-site each day required.
- Duties will be performed inside classrooms, exhibit spaces, at a desk, as well as in out-door working conditions.
- Duties will be performed in a museum environment, which includes interaction with the public and exposure to children and families.
- FBI fingerprint, PA Child Abuse History Certificate (Act 33) and PA State Criminal Record Check (Act 34) are required.
