Position Summary:
The Education Specialist plays a key role in inspiring young learners, creating engaging educational experiences, and expanding academic enrichment opportunities for children in underserved communities. This position develops and delivers high-quality, standards-aligned educational programs that foster curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

The Education Specialist collaborates with a dynamic team to develop, coordinate, and implement innovative programs that align with South Carolina’s Early Learning, Academic, and College and Career-Ready Standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Community Outreach & School Programs (30%)
Expand CML’s impact beyond the museum by delivering STEAM-based lessons in local schools and at community events.
- Facilitate interactive lessons aligned with SC educational standards.
- Develop pre- and post-visit instructional materials for teachers and students.
- Represent CML at outreach events and support program logistics.
- Assist in the coordination of materials and volunteers for outreach efforts.
- Travel with the Pop-Up Tinker Shop (PUTS) for STEM-based activities.
- Work Tuesday through Saturday, with occasional evenings and weekends.
2. Museum Programming (35%)
Develop and lead engaging educational programs for museum visitors.
- Design and implement both free and paid programs that promote interactive learning.
- Manage materials procurement within budget.
- Promote program participation through in-museum engagement activities.
- Facilitate education sessions for school field trips.
3. Summer Camp Management (30%)
Oversee and facilitate CML’s summer camp, including the nationally recognized Freedom School Program.
- Serve as the on-site Camp Manager, ensuring a safe and structured environment.
- Manage camper sign-in/out and assist with behavior and emergency situations.
- Set up, break down, and maintain camp spaces.
- Supervise and support volunteers.
4. Professional Development (5%)
Participate in meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and expertise.
Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned to support the museum’s mission.
