What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant position at Children's National Medical Center?
This position will primarily be responsible for the accounting of specific financial activity according to generally accepted accounting principles and the monthly closing process. The position will assist the Accounting Manager in maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, as well as the financial reporting systems and processes. Completes various analyses, including account reconciliation and verification of system interfaces, and draws conclusions and recommends solutions or improvements as a result. Functions as a resource to the Accounting Managers and the Controller. Supports the mission of Children's National Health System.
Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree Finance or Accounting (Required) Minimum Work Experience 1 year In the accounting field using a large ledger system; public accounting experience. (Required) Required Skills/Knowledge Thorough knowledge of GAAP. Complete understanding of the entire financial process, including all aspects of accrual accounting. Experience with computerized accounting systems and spreadsheet software. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills. Able to meet deadlines and work cooperatively with individuals both inside and outside the organization. Functional Accountabilities Departmental Operations
- Use automated methods to the fullest extent possible to improve efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.
- Ensure adequate retention and storage of corporate financial records.
- Prepare GL entries required to record the activities of the accounts being monitored.
- Assist with the monthly financial close process.
- Other duty as assigned.
- Prepare account reconciliations and analysis.
- Perform research to comply with departmental monthly performance requests.
- Assist with special projects and provide support to the Accounting Managers.
- Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance
