Job Summary:

  • The Advanced Practice Provider is an advanced practice registered nurse or physician’s assistant with education, training, certification and licensure to provide the medical, psychiatric, behavioral and mental-health care in a variety of treatment settings. The APP will assess, diagnose and treat pediatric patients with behavioral health diagnoses. This individual works in collaboration with the collaborating physician, Division Medical Director, staff physicians, the Division Director(s) of Nursing, staff nurses and other team members. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Utilizes advanced assessment skills to manage a cohort of patients. Performs and documents assessments. Collects and analyzes data and formulates a family-centered plan of care.
  • Evaluates and monitors the effectiveness of the prescribed treatment plan. Using the most current evidence, modifies the plan of care based on the effectiveness of the treatment and the patient/family response to the plan.
  • Serves as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing and other staff and prescriber team. Acts as a consultant to multidisciplinary health care team members.
  • Participates in scholarly activities. Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings. Participates in the professional development of others. Acts as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of nurses, nurse practitioners, students and other health care providers.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practice to enhance safety. Shares errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms. Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice.

Education:

  • MSN, DNP or Post-Graduate Certificate with specialization as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner required
  • Graduate of master’s or doctoral level physician assistant program

Experience:

  • At least 1 year of experience required with experience in the subspecialty area preferred.

Licensures, Certifications, and/or Registries:

  • Must be eligible to practice as a nurse practitioner as determined by the Alabama Board of Nursing or as a physician assistant as determined by the Alabama Board of Medicine
  • Current RN Licensure in the State of Alabama for nurse practitioners
  • Current BLS certification
Valid PMHNP Certification from appropriate certifying board or certification as PA-C from NCCPA
