What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Nurse Outreach Coordinator position at Children's of Alabama?
SUMMARY
The School Nurse Outreach Coordinator is a proficient professional nurse who demonstrates specialized knowledge and skills to facilitate the delivery of educational programs related to health and safety. This position will provide health information and injury prevention programs for pediatric clients, families, staff, and the community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Review all post-conference surveys to plan and implement the educational programs for school nurses in the state of Alabama (approximately 1,700).
Plan 3 summer virtual school nurse workshops, 3 hours each.
Plan 3-4 virtual skills workshops, or more if need arises in schools and staffing allows, for Trach and G-tube.
Plan 4 or more virtual school nurse spotlights, 1 hour each, to satisfy school nurse needs from surveys or to facilitate awareness of programs that COA offers that are important to student health and safety.
Monitor and maintain the content of www.myschoolnurse.net, the COA sponsored school nurse website.
Develop and coordinate monthly school nurse newsletter, THE PULSE.
Serve as liaison between COA, school nurses, Alabama Board of Nursing and Alabama State Department of Education. This includes scheduling and facilitating meetings to improve patient outcomes, improving phone and email communication between partnerships, and providing navigation through the COA network of care.
Attend state school nurse conferences to foster and maintain relationships with key healthcare providers for students in our state.
Serve on other conference committees to help represent the educational needs of the school nurse and bring insight to what the virtual audience experiences.
Project Manager for Alabama LifeStart Program under the direction of Pediatric Cardiology.
The School Nurse Outreach Coordinator will also be involved in other programming needs within the Health Education and Safety Center, including the following topics: child passenger safety, teen driving, transportation-related safety, home safety, etc.
Support and assist with all programs within the Health Education and Safety Center, as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a valid nursing license for the State of Alabama.
A Certified Pediatric Nurse Certificate is preferred.
Two or more years’ experience as a School Nurse is preferred.
National Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification or may be completed within 6 months.
