Come and join our team supporting Children's Hospital Eye Clinics! Our patient population ranges from infants to 18 years old. The great majority are school age kids. Most have Medicaid or CHP . The kids are fantastic to work with. Many of the kids we see have special needs. It can occasionally be challenging but it is ALWAYS rewarding.
We have 4 optical locations inside various Children's Hospital Colorado Eye clinics. The currently open position is located at the new Children's Hospital Village Pavilion in Aurora. This is a Monday through Friday only situation - we don't work evenings and we're closed on weekends. We only provide eyeglasses, no contact lenses.
As an optician with Children’s Optical you’ll support Children's Hospital providers (a combo of O.D.s and M.D.s). We need someone with significant opticianry experience who has masterful talents as a dispensing optician but also someone with a desire, skills and personality to work with kids. We need someone who is extremely reliable, a self-starter who can work independently, a quick study, neat and organized, detail oriented and has unfailingly solid customer pleasing skills. Pay is generous and will include vacation time, paid holidays, allowance for sick days and a retirement plan option (with employer matching) is available.

Key Job Responsibilities:
- Assist customers in selecting frames and lenses that best suit their prescription, lifestyle, and budget.
- Take accurate facial measurements and ensure proper frame fitting and adjustments.
- Educate customers on lens options, coatings, and treatments to meet their visual needs.
- Verify prescriptions and ensure accurate ordering processing.
- Perform correct data entry for eyeglass orders and invoicing.
- Troubleshoot optical issues and provide solutions to customers.
- Dispense, adjust, and repair prescription eyeglasses as needed.
- Verify vision insurance eligibility and process claims.
- Determine and collect copays or out-of-pocket expenses.
- Provide guidance on eyewear maintenance and care.
- Utilize technology and applications effectively to manage patient records and appointments.
- Collaborate with the optometrist and ophthalmologists to ensure seamless patient care and satisfaction.
- Conduct end-of-day accounting procedures and reconcile transactions.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Optician (Required)
- Proficient in interpreting prescriptions and recommending appropriate eyewear.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with an eye on trends in eyewear.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification as an Optician (preferred but not required).
