ABOUT CHILDREN SERVICES OF ROXBURY : Founded in 1972 Children's Services of Roxbury's (CSR) mission is to provide high quality services to economically-disadvantaged children, youth, families, and individuals thereby promoting and strengthening family life and individual growth. CSR serves approximately 6,000 families across Massachusetts, serving families through four key services areas : Early Education and Care, Behavioral Health Services, Youth and Family Services and Housing and Stabilization. There are 22 programs operating under those four services areas. CSR operates across in 4 cities and a staff of 400 employees.

OVERVIEW : The lack of adequate, affordable housing further destabilizes economically-disadvantaged adults and families. CSR's Housing and Stabilization Services staff is committed to addressing the needs of individuals and families struggling with homelessness, by providing permanent or temporary shelter along with food and clothing. Our safe, secure, and nurturing environments help families and individuals regain their self-esteem, develop life skills and financial independence, while remaining healthy and connected to their communities.

SUMMARY : The Stabilization Case Manager will work with families in shelter as they transition to permanent housing and support them for at least 1 year. The main goals are to prevent homelessness and help families flourish. The Case Manager will assess family's strengths and needs and will support them in achieving improved family well-being and housing stability. The Stabilization Case Manager will employ a strength based and person-centered approach to working with families and will collaborate closely with shelter staff and family to help achieve family and departmental goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Meet the family while they are still in shelter to help them transition to permanent housing (helping the family secure resources to help them move, cover costs, furnish the new unit, etc.)
  • Meet monthly with families in their homes across Boston, make referrals to community resources, and partner to support their goals related to long term stability and family independence.
  • Complete the CSR stabilization assessment and establish a DHCD service plan that addresses barriers to maintaining housing.
  • Assist participants in establishing and maintaining positive relationships with landlords, and housing provider. Provide quarterly check-ins with collaterals and mediate any conflict.
  • Support families to remain in compliance with their leases and stabilization plans, mediate with landlords, and provide housing counseling, information and referrals to prevent loss of housing.
  • Coordinate legal services, assist with appeal process, mediation, support and attend housing court in cases of termination of rental subsidy or eviction
  • Support families in increasing economic self-sufficiency by : Working collaboratively with CSR Workforce Development team; improving financial literacy; budgeting; building savings; and applying for all eligible benefits.
  • Support parents in obtaining health insurance, primary health care provider and other medical services as needed for all family members.
  • Conduct interventions, make referrals, and manages crisis as needed in accordance with agency policies.
  • Maintain client files as required either in computer database or paper file; ensure all data reporting contract requirements are met in accordance with DHCD and CSR requirements, including but not limited to : HUD Assessments (Intake, Update and Exit); Case Notes; Stabilization Housing Plan and Incident Reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS NEEDED :

  • Ability to speak / write in Spanish preferred.
  • Reliable transportation for home visits and meetings required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Experience working with formerly homeless or low-income families and knowledge of community resources preferred.
  • Experience entering data into ETO or Apricot preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in human service or a related field preferred.
  • Must be able to climb 4 flights of stairs.
  • Knowledge of community resources and agencies that will assist families with long term goals and stability preferred
  • Excellent self and cultural awareness
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain boundaries and positive relationships with families.
  • Proven ability to work well with others, including a diverse team and people experiencing homelessness
  • Able to work independently in a self-directed manner to accomplish tasks
  • Uses supervision and consultation in decision making
  • Must be consistent but flexible and able to adapt to quickly changing circumstances
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong planning, organizational, attention to details, and computer skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills; actively listens, self-regulates, conveys empathy, and ability to remain calm in a crisis.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to local meetings
