Hours :
Varies depending on experience and demand from the community. Typical hours will be Thursday to Monday with hours that vary depending on class offerings and reservations. Individuals must be comfortable opening or closing down the studio alone at times once trained. Preference is given to those applicants available during weekdays and weekends.
Position Details
Art Studio Instructor for classes, workshops, camps, and events in ceramics for youth, adults, and families of a variety of skill levels, depending on the needs of the studio. Must be able to teach wheel throwing and hand-building at an introductory to intermediate level for youth and adults. Individuals hired for this position may substitute for art classes in a variety of other formats including canvas or glazing pottery. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are :
- Provides instruction and prepares curriculum, specifically in ceramics, using wheel and hand-building techniques. Works with teammates to coordinate firings.
- Serves bookings such as birthday / private parties, classes, and events.
- Ability to use on-hand resources and materials creatively within a variety of the studio's settings.
- Ensures students and member needs are met through personal recognition and providing quality service.
- Monitors the well-being of all participants throughout the art program.
- Assumes a leadership role as a professional in the area of arts.
- Ensures that a safe and healthy environment exists for participants.
- Assists in the upkeep and general maintenance of the art studio.
- Arrives well prepared, with all necessary supplies before class starts.
- May be responsible for opening and closing the building for programs and open studio time.
While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties.
Position Requirements
Education : B.S., B.A., or B.F.A. degree in ceramics or related subject is not required but will provide an advantage when choosing the right fit. Consideration is also given to those who are currently enrolled in one of the degree-seeking programs listed above and have extensive youth / teaching experience.
Work Experience : 1-year experience teaching art classes in a school or art center setting is required; 3-5 years preferred.
Specialized Training : Able to create lesson plans independently for adults and / or youth in wheel throwing and hand-building at a beginner and intermediate level. Some equipment training may be provided.
