Additional Information Department: Spiritual Care Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits Shift: Day Shift, Monday through Friday, 10am to 6:30pm. Flexibility required to accommodate outpatient hours of operation. Job Overview The Chaplain provides spiritual care, counseling, and crisis intervention for patients, families and team members of Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO).  The Chaplain offers spiritual guidance and resources during hospitalization and periods of illness, crisis and loss; coordinates spiritual care services with family faith leaders and home faith communities when it is appropriate; provides consultation on patient, religious, and ethical issues of significance in the healthcare community; and provides compassionate services to a diverse population encompassing all faiths that are represented by patients, families and team members at CHCO. Responsibilities POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE a.) Neonate - <30 days b.) Infancy - >30 days to 1yr c.) Toddlers - >1yr to 3yrs d.) Pre-Schoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs e.) School age - >5yrs to 13yrs f.) Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs g.) Adult - >18yrs to 65yrs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. Assesses patients, families, and team members’ spiritual needs; assists them in using their faith in dealing with illness, trauma, stress, and loss; and documents services provided. Supports team members with their resiliency and compassion development. Provides crisis intervention as necessary. Develops and provides educational materials and trainings as necessary. Provides compassionate and responsive spiritual services in alignment with departmental and organizational objectives and strategies. Performs religious rites, services, and acts as a resource for faith communities. Participates in departmental committees and projects as assigned. Other duties as assigned. SPIRITUAL ASSESSMENT - Must be able to assess patients’ spiritual needs and sense of well-being and find appropriate solutions to meet patient and family needs. SCOPE AND LEVEL Guidelines: Guidelines are generally numerous, well established, and directly applicable to the work assignment.  Work assignment and desired results are explained by general oral or written instructions. Complexity: Duties assigned are generally repetitive and restricted in scope but may be of substantial intricacy.  Employee primarily applies standardized practices. Decision Making: Decisions or recommendations on non-standardized situations are limited to relating organizational policies to specific cases.  Brings non-routine issues to supervisor. Problems that are not covered by guidelines or are without precedent are taken up with the supervisor. Communications: Contacts with the public or employees where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, gathered, or presented and some degree of discretion and judgment are required within the parameters of the job function. Supervision Received: Under normal supervision, within a standardized work situation, the employee performs duties common to the line of work without close supervision or detailed instruction.  Work product is subject to continual review. Qualifications EDUCATION – Master of Divinity, Pastoral Counseling, Theology or related field.  EXPERIENCE – 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education at an ACPE accredited healthcare center. Ordination in a religious community or meets ecclesiastical endorsement for health care ministry. ¿Oncology Spiritual Care provider with Palliative Care experience preferred  CERTIFICATION(S) – Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) eligible.
