Additional Information Department: Level Three-PICU Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits Shift: Monday through Friday or variable to the needs of the unit off hours.  Weekend hours as needed. Job Overview The Clinical Education Specialist job description is in alignment with the Association of Nurses in Professional Development (ANPD). ANPD is the practice and thought leader for nursing professional development and the specialty practice organization upon which education specialists base their professional activities. ANPD has identified six core standards of practice on which this job description was heavily influenced: competency management, education, role development, orientation/onboarding, research/EBP/QI, and collaborative partnerships. Responsibilities POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE Neonate - <30 days nfancy - >30 days to 1yr Toddlers - >1yr to 3yrs Pre-Schoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs School age - >5yrs to 13yrs Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs Adult - >18yrs to 65yrs ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. Designs, coordinates, facilitates, onboarding and orientation programs for licensed and unlicensed team members. 2. Evaluates orientation and onboarding experiences to ensure newly hired team members are prepared to practice safely and independently. 3. Mentors, develops, and evaluates preceptors to enhance learning experiences for all new hires. 4. Collaborative Partnerships: 5. Demonstrates knowledge of effective communication principles and promotes communication among disciplines. 6. Demonstrates skillful guidance and teaching of team members to advance the care of patients, families, and the profession of nursing. 10. Acts as a resource to staff, department, and safety coaches related to patient safety issues 11. Supports quality improvement standards; regulatory standards; patient safety standards; error prevention tools, methodologies, technologies and resources. 12. Participates and mentors others in the development, implementation and evaluation of departmental, divisional and organizational goals to include research and the quality improvement/research process to improve patient outcomes. 13. Demonstrates leadership through team building, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills to build partnerships across the system. Other Information SCOPE & LEVEL Guidelines: Advanced full performance professional level work that requires additional knowledge, education, training or experience. Complexity: Duties performed involve concepts, theories, and concrete factors to be evaluated and weighed requiring a high degree of analytical ability, independent judgment, and decision-making. Acts as a subject matter expert in the field of expertise. Decision Making: Exercises judgment and discretion, and is responsible for determining the time, place and sequence of the work performed. Communications: Contacts with team members, clients or the public where some degree of discretion and judgment are required in carrying out a major program and/or function of the organization. Supervision Received: Performs work with minimal supervisory oversight. Work assignment is generally unstructured and employee is responsible for organizing complex, varied, and simultaneous coordination of several functions, programs, or projects in various stages of completion. Qualifications Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) or equivalent, with post-master’s certification in education Experience: 5 years of clinical pediatric experience.  Previous PICU experience preferred. Certification(s): BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire  American Nurses Credentialing Center(ANCC) or Magnet approved certification. Licensure(s): Current Colorado RN License.
