Additional Information Department: Room Service Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits Shift: 4 10's Shifts are either 7am-5:30pm or 9am-7:30pm; Must be able to work weekends. Job Overview The Dietitian Assistant provides operational support for the Clinical Nutrition department and clinical assistance with patient’s nutritional care.  This role is responsible for triaging phone calls, nutrition risk screening, calorie counts, diet analysis, meal planning, nutrition support flow sheet calculations and ketogenic diet initiation.  The Dietitian Assistant coordinates and collaborates closely with the room service coordinators in food service to ensure compliance with inpatients diet modifications.   The Dietitian Assistant is also responsible for the accurate, safe and timely preparation and distribution of formulas from Formula lab. Responsibilities POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE Neonate - <30 days Infancy - >30 days to 1 yr Toddlers - >1 yr to 3yrs Pre-Schoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs School age - >5yrs to 13yrs Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs Adult - >18yrs to 65yrs ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform Determines nutritional risk of all patients in accordance with policies and procedures and ensures timely communication to Registered Dietitian (RD) staff. Partners with patients, families and nursing to accurately calculate and document all intakes, oral and nutrition support for all inpatients with an order for calorie count. Supports and coordinates all facets of the ketogenic diet orientation with the ketogenic RD and team.  Plans menus for patients in accordance with the ketogenic diet prescription. Provides training to families on how to prepare keto meals while in patient and for home use. Assists patients and families in meal planning for any patient on a complex therapeutic diet that cannot be managed through room service. Responsible for outpatient diet analysis of food records submitted by RD’s and medical providers. Supports and collaborates with the eating disorder RD’s to help families with patient menu planning. Coordinates with families to insure that the family is ordering meals in compliance with the correct meal plan level. Responsible for the accurate calculation and timely documentation of daily enteral and parenteral nutrient intake for patients in the critical care inpatient units. Utilizes communication, customer service and emotional intelligence skills to effectively triage departmental calls. Responsible for the accurate, safe and timely preparation and distribution of formulas prepared in formula lab. Qualifications EDUCATION – Associate’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, Healthcare or related field.  EQUIVALENCY – Certification as a registered dietetic technician or two years of related work experience may be accepted in lieu of education requirements.
