Responsibilities POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE Neonate - <30 days Infancy - >30 days to 1 yr Toddlers - >1 yr to 3yrs Pre-Schoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs School age - >5yrs to 13yrs Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs Adult - >18yrs to 65yrs ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. Delivers patient and family centered care in a transport environment while incorporating developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive, evidence based care practices and methodologies. Assesses and adjust therapies during transport in response to changes in patient outcomes. Communicates and advocates patient values, preferences and expressed needs as part of the implementation of care plan, evaluation of care and assessment of patient/family learning needs. Build and maintains strong working relationships with multidisciplinary healthcare providers to provide individualized patient/family care and education while minimizing risks to the patient during transitions of care. Extends hospital resources into the referring communities through clinical care, education and outreach. Researches, compiles, and analyzes data and prepares case records, reports, and correspondence to facilitate communication, clinical decision making, error prevention, and care coordination. Collects, monitors, and reports on quality of care outcomes and measures; provides input into the continuous evaluation and improvement of internal quality and safety processes, procedures, and performance measures. Ensures compliance with clinical policies, procedures, and best practices in order to minimize the risk of harm to patients and providers. Ensures compliance with all safety rules and regulations while on ground and air transports Researches, identifies, and implements evidence based practice to improve the quality of care provided to patients/families. Serves on department and organization-wide committees as directed. Other Information SCOPE AND LEVEL GUIDELINES: Fully qualified, full performance or journey level. Guidelines are generally but not always clearly applicable, requiring the employee to exercise judgment in selecting the most pertinent guideline, interpret precedents, adapt standard practices to differing situations, and recommend alternative actions in situations without precedent. COMPLEXITY: Duties assigned are generally complex and may be of substantial intricacy. Work assignment is performed within an established framework under general instructions but requires simultaneous coordination of assigned functions or projects in various stages of completion. DECISION MAKING: Exercises judgment and discretion, and is responsible for determining the time, place and sequence of the work performed. COMMUNICATIONS: Contacts with the patients, families or employees where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, defended, and gathered and discretion and judgment are required within the parameters of the job function. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Performs work with minimal supervisory oversight. Under general supervision, the employee receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence. Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standard practice or precedent. Recurring work clearly covered by guidelines may or may not be reviewed. Qualifications EDUCATION – Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy or Respiratory Care EXPERIENCE – Four Years clinical respiratory therapy experience in a Critical Care/ED EQUIVALENCY – Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy or Respiratory Care plus two years of experience will substitute for the Bachelor’s Degree requirement. CERTIFICATION(S) – BLS for Healthcare Providers/CPR, Advanced Life Support Certification, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Trauma Provider Advanced Trauma Course, Certified Neonatal/Pediatric Transportation Certification, and Neonatal Resuscitation Program LICENSURE(S) – Registered Respiratory Therapist from National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) and State of Colorado, Respiratory Therapist license Physical Requirements Audio-Visual: Color Discrimination: Good Audio-Visual: Depth Perception: Good Audio-Visual: Far Vision: Good Audio-Visual: Hearing: Good Audio-Visual: Near Vision: Good General Activity: Stand/Walk: 4-6 hrs. per day Motion: Bend: Up to 1/3 of time Motion: Carry: Up to 1/3 of time Motion: Climb: Up to 1/3 of time Motion: Lift: Up to 1/3 of time Motion: Pull: Up to 1/3 of time Motion: Push: Up to 1/3 of time Motion: Reach: Up to 1/3 of time Motion: Squat/Crouch: Up to 1/3 of time Others: Ability to travel to and navigate around worksites which may or may not meet ADA requirements. Others: May assist in lifting, transporting and positioning of patients Others: Must be able to tolerate temperature changes, smoke, fumes, and dust. Others: Occupational Hazards - exposure to severe weather conditions; must be able to meet scheduling demands during all weather conditions Others: Occupational Hazards - exposure to unsteady or falling patient: In the course of transferring a patient, may encounter a patient who falls or loses balance, causing employee to fall and/or bear the full weight of a patient Weight Lifted/Force Exerted: More than 100 pounds: Up to 1/3 of time Ability to maintain compliance with FFL’s annual physical fitness requirements that consists of a recurring physical testing of all flight crew members who maintain flight status. The process involves completion of a “pack test” that requires staff to walk three miles within 45 minutes carrying a 20lb weighted vest. Ability to maintain FFL’s weight requirement for flight status of 225lbs.  This is measured with full uniform, equipment, coat and helmet as one would weigh in the aircraft with full uniform.
