Shift: Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm. On-call rotation: Every 6 weeks.
Job Overview
Responsible for managing and directing the day-to-day activities of Clinical Pharmacy Staff. Serves as a clinical resource for the provision of pharmaceutical care and clinical pharmacy services by building effective relationships with staff and departments within the hospital. Ensures safe, appropriate, and economical use of drugs through the application of specialized skills and knowledge in pediatric patient care. Manages up to fifteen direct reports.
The supervisor of clinical pharmacy services will oversee the critical care and/or general medicine/oncology clinical pharmacist float teams.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Participates in leadership activities for department, contributing to the achievement of goals and objectives. Defines and maintains internal processes for clinical pharmacy services; supports customer service standards and handles escalations. Serves as a champion of organization culture, influencing culture change to support pharmacy objectives.
Facilitates the development, maintenance, and implementation of hospital and department policy and procedures related to regulatory requirements for medication use, preparation, storage, restrictions, and administration. Provides oversight for medication management including evaluation of drug utilization, non-formulary medication approval, drug shortage management, and medication safety review.
Supervises day to day activities of clinical pharmacy staff. Assigns and reviews work, provides work instruction (on-the-job or formal training) and develops team members. Evaluates performance of team members, providing continuous feedback. Manages discipline and performance issues; hires and fires team members. Identifies resource needs and develops recommendations for meeting needs.
Maintains effective working relationships with staff, peers, and senior leadership. Serves as a liaison between pharmacy leadership and pharmacy staff.
Participates in department and hospital wide committees representing the pharmacy.
Provides drug information services by responding to questions regarding medication compatibilities, adverse drug events, regimens, dosing, interactions, storage and disposal, compounding, therapeutic uses of medications and pharmaceutical supplies in a timely manner.
Sustains and implements quality and safety initiatives and practices in the department and throughout the hospital. Reports adverse drug events and medication variances using the hospital variance reporting program (QSRS).
Sustains clinical pharmacy services throughout the organization by providing pharmaceutical care for pediatric patients of all age ranges through participation in multi-disciplinary team rounds and/or care, emergency response, education, guidance, interpretation and analysis of medication related therapeutic issues; documenting pharmaceutical interventions according to departmental standards; performing therapeutic drug monitoring and disease outcome analysis; and timely verification of medication orders in an electronic health record system.
Participate in general pharmacy operations throughout the organization through appropriate medication preparation, dispensing, and inventory control. Provides oversight to pharmacy technicians, interns, residents and students as needed.

Maintains knowledge and competency as related to Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures, Policies and State Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations.
Scope and Level
GUIDELINES: Guidelines are in the form of stated objectives for the section, unit, function, or project. Is normally the first level of full supervision in a classification series. Performs most elements of supervision over 50% of the time. May also perform the work of front line staff as needed.
COMPLEXITY: Work assignment is generally unstructured and employee is responsible for assigning and supervising a variety of functions to achieve the objectives of the section, unit, or project. Duties performed involve weighing and evaluating factors requiring judgment, analytical ability, and problem solving.
DECISION MAKING: Employee is responsible for simultaneous coordination and supervision of several functions, programs, or projects in various stages of completion. Primary responsibility for arranging and directing the work of two or more employees.
COMMUNICATION: Contacts are of a non-prescribed nature involving the negotiation and resolution of problems and where exceptional degrees of discretion, judgment, and specialized knowledge are required in carrying out the programs and policies of an organization.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Under managerial direction, the employee has personal accountability for carrying out the work objectives of an organizational unit or section within the scope of established guidelines and the mission of the agency or department. Employee is expected to resolve problems that arise in the normal course of the work. Work may be discussed with higher level supervisors and reviewed for soundness of judgment and feasibility of decisions.
Qualifications
Education: PharmD and completion of one year pharmacy residency
Experience: Three (3) years of Pediatric Hospital Pharmacy experience.
Equivalency: Second year of residency specializing in pediatrics or administration
Licensure: Licensed pharmacist in the state of Colorado
PGY1 pharmacy residency - Required.
PGY2 pharmacy residency (pediatrics or administration) PLUS at least 3 years of hospital work experience
5 years of hospital work experience or greater – Strongly Preferred.
Board Certification – Strongly Preferred.
Prior management experience - Strongly Preferred.

Salary Information
Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $130,273.54 to $195,410.31
Hourly Salary Range: $62.63 to $93.95
