Apply now to see where your career at CHOC can take you.Job SummaryThe Animal Health Technician I follows established practices and procedures to provide routine animal care and assists research staff in performing technical work related to the care and use of research animals in the CHOC Research Institute animal care facility. Coordinates and performs routine vivarium daily activities including the collection and handling, housing and disposition, and care and treatment of approved laboratory animal models (mice and rats). Performs technical para-veterinary health care procedures, completes standard veterinary nursing activities, and performs related ancillary duties as needed. May also be involved with research support and training and oversight of research activities performed on approved laboratory animal models.Pay RangeMinimum $24.25 Midpoint $32.12 Maximum $39.99Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.ExperienceRequired: Minimum one (1) year of experience working with animals.Preferred: Previous experience (60 hours) with laboratory animals (mice, rates) in an academic research facility.EducationRequired: Associate's degree in Science or Veterinary Technology, or equivalent work experience.Preferred: Prefers graduations from an AVMA or California approved registered veterinary technician program, or equivalent.TrainingPreferred: Biosafety Level 2 (BLS2) training, working knowledge of the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.Specialized SkillsRequired: Basic skills in Microsoft Office suite of software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
