What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Pharmacist position at Childrens Hospital of The King's Daughters?
Under direct departmental supervision, the Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for accurately reviewing medication orders and dispensing medications for the pediatric population in accordance with the standards of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists and the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group. Reports to department leadership.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responds to drug information inquiries from other healthcare professionals.
- Provides oversight and supervision of duties performed by a pharmacy technician and pharmacy interns.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- LICENSES AND / OR CERTIFICATIONS
- MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Must have interpersonal skills to communicate and gain cooperation of hospital administration and staff, patients, their families and guests regarding drug therapy and other important aspects of pharmaceutical care.
- Must have analytical skills to insure medication is prepared in accordance with professional standards and practices.
- Must possess critical thinking skills to determine when to consult and advise physicians and patients as to the use of medications and their possible side effects.
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be in good standing and maintain continuing education requirements with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
- WORKING CONDITIONS
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ensures safe and effective drug therapy throughout the medication distribution process beginning with the review of physician's orders, accurate preparation of medications and administration of medication to the patient.
Must possess a Virginia Pharmacy License or be eligible for licensure within four months of hire.
Must be a graduate of an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy.
Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
