GENERAL SUMMARY
The Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner (Night) engages in activities constituting the practice of medicine in collaboration with and under the medical direction, clinical guidance, and supervision of a licensed physician. Responsibilities include performing hospital emergency department consults, conducting hospital rounds, assisting with Operating Room (OR) orders and checks, and handling Urgent Care transfers. This position works overnight “in-house” and manages first call for designated specialty service(s) providing high quality and timely point of care as appropriate, as well as coordinating plan of care follow up. May perform admissions and discharges under the direction of on-call physician. This position may occasionally act as a first assistant in the OR when the need arises and collaborate with the OR staff to develop the knowledge, skill, and critical thinking necessary to assist in performing a safe operation. Responsible for managing acute and complex patient conditions in dynamic environment and communicating with appropriate health care team members across multiple services. Reports to supervising physician(s) and designated management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs a wide variety of inpatient and outpatient patient care activities and accommodative services to support the surgical specialty division(s) with effective utilization of healthcare resources.
- Effectively utilizes healthcare resources and communicates with other members of the healthcare team.
- Demonstrates excellence in practice characterized by quality patient care and participation in formal and informal patient and staff education.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Required Licenses and / or Certifications
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required at time of hire or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Physician Assistant (PA)
- Current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification required at time of hire.
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required at time of hire or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Preferred Licenses and / or Certifications
- Required Education and Experience
- Continuous re-certification and / or maintenance of state licensures, certifications, educational and application requirements is required during employment.
- Preferred Education and Experience
- Two to three years of Pediatric experience preferred.
- Two to three years of Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) experience preferred.
- Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to travel locally between hospital and clinics is required.
LICENSES AND / OR CERTIFICATIONS
Nurse Practitioner (NP)
Current state license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with specialization in Family or Pediatrics required at time of hire.
Current State license as a Physician Assistant (PA) required at the time of hire.
Nurse Practitioner (NP)
Active / Current certification from the Orthopedic Nurses Certification Board (ONCB) preferred.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Master’s degree in related field(s) is required.
Must provide record of a completed diploma (or equivalent) or academic transcript for those areas performing complexity testing.
Previous Emergency Department (ED) and Operating Room (OR) experience preferred.
Execution of Non-Competition, Confidentiality and Non-Solicitation Agreement required for assigned specialty hired into.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
