Description

Founded in 1970, Children’s Hunger Alliance (CHA) is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger, collaborating with organizations throughout Ohio to provide nutritious meals to at-risk children who need them most. CHA partners with in-home childcare providers, childcare centers, afterschool, and summer programs to provide balanced, nutritious meals to children in their care. Additionally, they work with schools to increase breakfast participation and provide weekend meals to students. CHA educators also deliver nutrition education and lead children in physical activities to support children’s long-term health.

Job Purpose:

Lead, direct, and provide oversight for statewide nutrition education programming and initiatives for children and their caregivers in early care, afterschool, and summer settings. Explore, recommend, develop, and expand nutrition education strategies to reach children in these settings statewide.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the implementation of age-appropriate and evidence-based programming in early childhood (family child care homes and childcare centers) and school-aged (afterschool/summer programs) settings using national best practices, including program design, curriculum/resource development and/or identification, training, program implementation and delivery, program evaluation (observations), etc.
  2. Supervise early childhood and school-aged nutrition education programs, including logistics; promotion; hiring, coaching, training and managing educators/interns; processing expenses; addressing challenges and fostering clear communication.
  3. Explore nutrition education opportunities to reach children and their caregivers in early care and school age settings through capacity building vs. direct service. Seek out community, partner, and child needs and opportunity gaps. Identify resources including program, financial, and collaborating partners. In conjunction with department and agency leadership, determine which opportunities to pursue and take the lead in building out implementation of programming.
  4. Provide leadership statewide, and agency representation (advocate, spokesperson) to local, regional and state coalitions, committees and other organizations regarding nutrition education, developing and maintaining relationships with the key current and potential stakeholders. Establish and build collaborations to enhance and expand agency programs and mission.
  5. Develop and achieve annual goals and objectives for nutrition education programs within budget, and support development efforts to increase funding.
  6. Monitor nutrition related programs, projects and grants to ensure success and provide progress reports as necessary.
  7. Coordinate college interns; act as preceptor as needed.
  8. Other duties as assigned.
