Overview
The CDIS is filled by a professionally certified AHIMA, AAPC, or ACDIS and is responsible for the analysis of case mix comparison for the following account types; select outpatient, same day surgery, inpatient, emergency and urgent care accounts to identify clinical documentation gaps for the purpose of education and communication to physicians and hospital leadership. This role will work with other team members to develop educational plans for clinical documentation improvement in conjunction with documentation improvement, clinical, and organizational development. Our CDI Specialist will perform all job functions in a virtual and paperless office, utilizing:
• Hospital's ICD-CM Diagnostic and Procedure codes
• Hospital's CPT HCPCS level II codes
• The EHR
• Microsoft Excel
• Other software products as needed for data collection
The CDI Specialist will also have:
• Interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of hospital staff
• Strong analytical skills
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills
• The ability to improve the overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation by employing all Federal regulations and AMA coding guidelines.*
• Strong cross disciplinary awareness
• Understanding for data mining and assessment, clinical indicators of diseases, and coding regulations and guidelines

Responsibilities
- Performs documentation analytics
- Coordinates data pull and data integrity by creating reports and reviewing regulatory data pulls and audits. Works with IS to achieve best data pull options.
- Codes outpatient, same day surgery, inpatient, emergency and urgent care accounts in accordance with the rules, regulations, and coding conventions of ICD--CM and CPT official and other established guidelines. Identifies CCI edits on review of HCPCS Level II. Abstract patient data into the hospital's system. Obtain task queue daily and monitor and manage backlog
- Develop and maintain querey templates
- Code outpatient and inpatient patient types
- Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years experience or
- HS diploma or equivalent and 7 or more years experience Pediatric coding utilizing ICD and CPT codes. Record review and reporting. CDI. May be accepted in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
- One of the following: Registered Health Information Technician, Registered Health Information Administrator, Certified Professional Coder, Certified Coding Associate, Certified Compliance Professional, Certified Coding Specialist, Certified Outpatient Coder, Certified Inpatient Coder required upon hire
