About our NICUs and NNPs:
- We are a level IV NICU – the highest level of NICU designation – and our NNP’s provide care at both Children’s Mercy and 8 other level 2 and 3 NICU’s in the metropolitan area.
- Children’s Mercy NICU was ranked 14th in Neonatology by US News and World Report in 2022
- Our Elizabeth J. Ferrell Fetal Health Center located in Children’s Mercy provides the most comprehensive and advanced care in this region to mom’s and babies with high-risk pregnancies
- Diagnosis and testing of fetal conditions including fetal echocardiograms, amniocentesis, and diagnostic ultrasound
- Fetal Surgery and Intervention
- Delivery room management and treatment of complex neonatal disorders

- Utilizes the nursing process to develop and implement a comprehensive plan of care for the patient/family which promotes optimal patient outcomes.
- Serves as a clinical resource for the education and consultation needs of the health care team.
- Meets the educational needs of patient/family, utilizing principles of teaching/learning.
- Master's Degree MSN required and 3-5 years experience Neonatal RN experience. Exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis within preferred specialty.
- DNP preferred and 3-5 years experience Neonatal RN experience. Exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis within preferred specialty.
- Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
- Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
- Certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
- RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
- Current Neonatal Nurse Practitioner certification Required Upon Hire
- Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
- Specialty Certification relevant to unit’s patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred
- APRN board certification congruent with population and practice setting (see policy statement: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Roles and Practice Setting) Required Upon Hire
