Overview
The Division of Rheumatology at Children's Mercy provides expertise in the evaluation and treatment of a wide range of rheumatic, autoimmune, and musculoskeletal diseases in children.
Our team understands the complex physical and emotional needs of a child with a chronic illness. Our team consists of board-certified pediatric rheumatologists, clinic nurses, a nurse manager, a collaborating pharmacist, a care assistant, an on-site social worker, and research coordinators. We maintain strong relationships with other subspecialties we share patients with includes the Pain Management Team.
Registered nurses provide illness management and health promotion for patients and families who require hospital care. Registered staff nurses utilize the nursing process and knowledge of scientific principles to provide safe, high quality, comprehensive, and age appropriate nursing care for their assigned patients. Registered staff nurses provide patient and family education and advocate for their needs. Registered nurses coordinate patient care with nonprofessional personnel, as necessary.

Responsibilities
- Utilizes the nursing process to develop and implement a safe, high quality, comprehensive, and age-appropriate plan of care for the patient and family that promotes optimal patient outcomes.
- Meets the educational needs of the patient and family and advocates for their needs.
- Maintains an environment that is safe, comfortable, efficient, and family-centered.
- Utilizes current research and evidence for practice to expand personal professional knowledge, enhance role performance, and improve nursing care quality.
- Associate's Degree Current employees hired before September 1, 2013 are grandfathered and permitted to continue in the direct care nursing role.
- No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training
- Bachelor's Degree Preferred for all direct care nurses hired after September 1, 2013. Direct care nurses hired after this date without a BSN, must complete their degree within 5 years of their hire date.
- No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training
- One of the following: Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
- One of the following: Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
- RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
- Employees must obtain Licensed RN - KS or MO compact within 90 days
