Job Summary:
The PeriOp South Charge Nurse (OR) plans, coordinates and directs the progress of surgical cases in a 6 Operating Room suite. Effectively collaborates, communicates, and works with a variety of professionals such as Surgeons, CRNAs, Anesthesiologists, Operating Room Nurses, Surgical Technicians, Patient Care Technicians, and Biomed in order to direct the activities of the Operating Room. The Charge Nurse (OR) manages resources, staffing, daily assignments, and patient flow for the Operating Room working in conjunction with other PeriOp Charge Nurses for ODS & PACU. Serves as a resource for specialty services (i.e. ENT, Urology, Ortho, Ophthalmology, etc.). Anticipates future cases need by working with Sterile Processing, Main OR team leaders, and vendors as needed. Validates equipment and supplies needed are available prior to the day of surgery for all cases scheduled. Facilitates equipment in-services along with validating staff remain competent on existing equipment in addition to new equipment training/competency. Ensures national OR standards and regulations are followed. Oversees tissue tracking and aligns CS tissue tracking processes with Main OR process. Performs the function of OR staff nurse, ODS/PACU charge nurse, and float nurse when necessary. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
Work Experience
- Minimum of 3 years perioperative nursing (OR, PACU, and/or ODS) experience preferred
- Minimum of 1 year OR nursing required
- Minimum of 1 year leadership, supervisory, or managerial experience preferred
Licensures, Certifications, and/or Registries
- Current/Active Alabama RN license
- National perioperative nursing certification preferred (CNOR, etc.)
- BLS certification required
- PALS certification required
Additional Information
Children's South Surgery is an ambulatory surgical clinic with 6 ORs that provides comprehensive outpatient surgical services to the pediatric population. We strive to provide excellent customer service and are uniquely equipped to guide the pediatric patient and their families through the pre-operative, operative procedure, recovery and post-operative phases of surgery. Our staff care for patients having minor procedures in a wide variety of specialties including otolaryngology (ENT), ophthalmology, dermatology, urology and orthopedic surgeries. All staff are required to work in multiple areas of the perioperative process including Pre op/Post op, Operating Room and Post Anesthesia Care Unit. In addition, we support main campus Surgical Services by floating to the downtown location on occasion to maintain appropriate staffing. Our goal is to ensure that the patient moves safely and smoothly through the phases of surgery while normalizing the surgical environment to the patient. We equip the patient and their families to recover from their procedure and return to their lives ready to thrive.
