The Chincoteague Police Department is seeking a dedicated and reliable Traffic Control Officer to join our team. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring public safety by managing traffic flow, assisting at accident scenes, and supporting our law enforcement operations. Key Responsibilities:

• Direct Traffic: Safely manage vehicle and pedestrian flow at accident scenes, construction zones, and during special events.
• Incident Support: Collaborate with police officers and emergency personnel during incidents, ensuring proper traffic flow and safety of those involved.
• Enforce Regulations: Monitor and enforce parking violations, issuing warnings or citations when necessary.
• Community Engagement: Serve as a visible presence in the community, promoting safety and adherence to traffic regulations.
• Documentation: Record and report on traffic conditions, incidents, and any challenges encountered during your shift.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in traffic control or law enforcement is a plus.
• Valid drivers license with a clean driving record (CDL may be required depending on the position).
• Previous experience in traffic control, law enforcement, or a related field is preferred but not required.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, and direct traffic for extended periods.
• Capable of lifting and transporting equipment as needed.

Job Type: Seasonal

Pay: $17.40 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

• Evening shift

• Nights as needed

• Night Shift (Preferred)

Ability to Relocate:

• Chincoteague Island, VA 23336: Relocate before starting work (Required)
