After School Chinese Teacher | Youth Department
Part time (20 hours/week)
This position reports to the Youth Program Manager.
POSITION SUMMARY:
We seek a dynamic After School Chinese Teacher to create engaging curriculum (aligned with TEKS) for students aged 4-13. You’ll inspire a love for Chinese language, literature, and culture, directly contributing to CCC’s mission of bridging East and West.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
- Bachelor Degree in education or related field.
- Chinese/ English bilingual required.
- 1-2 year working experience with the target population.
- Knowledgeable and skilled in Foreign Language Teaching
Preferred
- Certified teacher from an accredited institution.
- Knowledge of up-to-date pedagogical practices in Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language.
- Knowledge of both traditional and simplified characters as well as Pinyin system.
- 6 months experience in the use of technology for foreign language teaching and learning.
- Knowledge of Chinese History and Culture.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interactions
- Provide a safe and healthy environment for children in classrooms and outdoors playground.
- Maintain teacher/child ratios and group sizes at all times.
- Relate to children with courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patience.
- Use positive guidance techniques to guide children behavior.
- Report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation to DFPS or to law enforcement.
Curriculum Development
- Create activity plans that are age-appropriate and relate to the specified subject.
- Use developmentally appropriate practices to guide and teach children.
Record Keeping
- Maintain classrooms records such as attendance and incident reports.
- Ensure student safety by checking ID’s of everyone who comes to pick up students.
Professional Development
- To perform the job successfully, the incumbent must be able to satisfactorily attend professional development trainings and stay aware of the Center’s policies and procedures.
- Ensure that staff attends professional development trainings to meet State Licensing standards.

- Good communication skills – Staff should be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and peers in a professional manner.
- Classroom management and instructional skills – Staff should be comfortable leading activities with students and be able to control the classroom environment at all times.
- Conflict resolution skills – Staff should be able to think quickly on their feet and help resolve conflicts as soon as they arise. Staff should be skilled at acting as a mediator to help calm situations.
- Team player – Staff should be able to function as part of a team, knowing when to take the lead and when to let others take the lead. Staff should be able to co-teach with other staff and demonstrate to students effective collaboration skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Standing: Must be able to stand for long periods of time when teaching or supervising active games.
- Sitting: May have to sit for an extended period of time when teaching in classrooms.
- Lifting: Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Bending: Must be able to kneel, stoop, or crouch to interact with children.
- Walking: Must be able to walk or run to observe and interact with children in a classroom setting and outdoors.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Classroom.
- Multi-purpose room and other buildings inside of the Chinese Community Center .
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Monday through Friday (schedule assigned)
