Activities / Life Enrichment Assistant
The Activities / Life Enrichment Assistant works under the direction of the Director of Campus Activities to help design and implement programs to increase socialization, provide entertainment, promote physical activity and continuing education opportunities to rehab clients and seniors living on the Chippewa Manor campus. This position is directly involved with helping to plan, promote and initiate special on-campus events, parties, holiday observances, off-campus field trips and dinner outings. This job helps staff, clients and residents maintain energy and morale at the optimal level of their mental, physical, and social functioning, both within the organization and in the community at large.
Status and Compensation:
- This is a full-time (40-hrs/week), primarily a day-shift position (may include some limited evenings or weekends)
- Compensation is hourly, based on qualifications and experience
- Paid every other week (or twice monthly)
- Immediate supervisor is the Director of Campus Activities
- This position is part of the Life Enrichment Department
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Helps to plan and implement appropriate activities for clients and staff in terms of interest, needs, space, supplies, budget and equipment available
- Works as a team with the Life Enrichment Department to evaluate programs periodically, modifying or expanding as appropriate
- Organizes clients and staff into groups and promotes interpersonal relationships
- Instructs clients in a variety of activities including crafts, recreation, community activities and other creative outings or ventures
- Drives and supervises residents and clients on field trips and outings
- Works with Life Enrichment staff to provide volunteers with useful job assignments which meet their service needs and utilizes their talents
- Possess a sincere interest and desire to work patiently, cooperatively, and effectively with clients, staff and volunteers of varied ages and abilities
- Looks for new ideas, keeps up with current trends and knowledge
- Shares ideas with supervisor and looks for ways to successfully implement new concepts
- Attends department in-services and meetings to continue personal growth
- Willingness to communicate with supervisor orally or in writing any concerns he/she may have regarding his/her job or other staff
- Other duties as discussed and/or assigned
Preferred Qualifications / Education / Accreditation:
- Previous activity program, human resources or related experience preferred
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Organized, energetic and friendly
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships
- Ability to exercise judgement and discretion in all matters
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to problem solve and negotiate effectively
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Ability to drive company vehicles
- Ability to push up to 250 pounds in a wheelchair
- Ability to stand, sit, bend, squat daily
- Ability and willingness to function as a member of an interdisciplinary team
- Ability and willingness to cooperate with department directors and employees
- Ability and willingness to work with nursing home clients, apartment residents,families and volunteers
- Practice good personal hygiene and abide by appropriate professional dress codes
- Abide by HIPAA regulations
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and communication technologies

Salary:
- Wage range $15-18 HR to start
- Based on education, experience and performance
