Job Overview
The Director of Dental Services will supervise and monitor the dental clinic, program management, care of the dental patients, supplies, patient education, communication with patients, recruiting and managing dental volunteers and the dental volunteer schedule, the budget, administrative roles, and compliance to regulatory issues.
Applicants must be a licensed WI Registered Dental Hygienist. Previous experience in managing dental clinic operations is preferred. Spanish-speaking is highly desired but not required.
Hours & Schedule
This position is being offered in two ways - one salaried, 32 hours per week or as two part-time positions with schedules to be determined based on availability.
Required hours during dental clinics and variable administrative hours. The current schedule for this position is:
Monday - Administrative (flexible scheduling)
Tuesday - Dental Clinic, 2-9:30pm; Beginning Fall 2025 an AM Dental Clinic will be added
Wednesdays - Administrative (flexible scheduling)
Thursdays - 1st & 3rd, AM and PM Dental Clinic; during dental clinics 8 a.m.- 9:30 p.m. NOTE: Shift is variable on Thursdays depending on other staff hours
Dental clinic hours are non-negotiable. Applicants must be available on Tuesday & Thursday evenings and the 1st & 3rd Thursday days.
Salary to be determined based on experience and qualifications. Benefits for the single position (32 hours, salaried) include paid time off, holiday pay, and 403(b) retirement stipend.
Job Duties
- Provide leadership in developing and maintaining standards of care
- Develop and maintain the dental scope of practice
- Supervise dental volunteer recruitment, training, and tracking
- Prepare the Dental Clinic to serve patients each week
- Ensure that patients receive follow-up services, such as medications or referrals for specialty care
- Oversee the patient tracking system; follow-up procedures, clinical protocols, and referral arrangements
- Oversee and implement fulfillment of DHS Oral Health Grant and other designated dental grants to include the scope of work, staff and volunteer supervision, required meeting attendance, and reporting
- Maintain patient confidentiality and function within the guidelines set by HIPAA
- Ensure the Dental Clinic meets all regulatory requirements
- Document appropriate liability insurance licenses of dental volunteers
- Monitor dental supply needs, place product orders as needed, and organize inventories
- Design patient flow in coordination with other services
- Prepare monthly report for the Board of Directors and yearly dental report for the Annual Report
- Serve as lead person representing dental services in the absence of, and in coordination with, the Volunteer Dental Director
Qualifications / Experience
- Minimum of two years’ experience providing dental services
- Experience in managing Dental Clinic operations
- Registered Dental Hygienist, licensed to practice in Wisconsin
- Preferred 3-5 years in dental management
- Experience in community-based healthcare setting; knowledge of community resources
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team structure
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize
- Working knowledge of various software and database technology, including Microsoft Office, EagleSoft, or similar dental software
- Demonstrates respect for diversity
