JOB TITLE: HIGHWAY SEASONAL WORKER

DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC WORKS

SUPERVISOR: HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Operates a variety of mowing equipment utilized in maintenance of the building grounds and county road ditches, maintenance, and repair activities; performs roadway maintenance work involving patching and brushing and performs related duties as required.

HOURS OF WORK:

Work hours are 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Thursday, for a total of 40 hours/week. Included in each day are morning and afternoon breaks and lunch.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Experience in operation of light equipment is desired. Must be 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license. Must be able to work outdoors in the weather.

SALARY RANGE: $18.50 per hour

Seasonal position is from May to September.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee constantly works in an outdoor setting. The noise level can be moderately noisy, especially when mowing and ear protection is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work mostly in outside weather conditions. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate various pieces of equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is required to walk; use hands to operate, finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is constantly exposed to fumes, noise, vibration, heat, humidity, cold, dust, odors, and dirty conditions. The employee is exposed to electrical shock, is required to use safety equipment, and may be exposed to chemicals.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
