Duties and responsibilities
We’re looking for a qualified, motivated individual to join our company as a Paint Process Engineer. As part of our team, you will inspect and evaluate automotive painting, coating, and pretreatment processes and optimize them for quality and manufacturing efficiency. Your duties include developing, testing, and implementing processes using robotic spray paint systems and other applicator products. You will manage paint project schedules for new equipment installation or maintenance, conduct shop capacity studies, implement competitiveness improvements, continuously evaluate paint department engineering capabilities using the scientific model, creating detailed project road maps for engineering projects that support our business objectives. You will need superb problem-solving and communication skills. Our ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree (preferred) in engineering with a focus on materials engineering, production engineering, coating sciences, chemical engineering, or a relevant field.
This key member of our engineering team will play an integral part in creating innovative solutions to support short-term production targets and longer-term growth and sustainability goals.
- Evaluate current manufacturing practices and identify those needing improvement.
- Manage production schedules and coordinate services to maximize productivity.
- Enforce quality control to reduce waste.
- Improve the efficiency of each production process.
- Support new model introductions, including equipment modifications, process jigs, etc.
- Identify necessary investment and equipment modifications for capacity increases, model mixes, etc.
- Analyzes collected data and validates data, models, and conclusions
- Constructs and updates capacity models from product, process, equipment, and labor data
- Analyzes product inputs and capacity models to perform capacity planning
- Analyzes workflow, cycle time and bottlenecks for production resource planning
- Develops workflow models using theory of constraints
- Works with manufacturing leadership team to execute to workflow models
- Analyzes labor, material, and fixed costs to develop and update product costing models
- Manages projects as needed
- Reviews and optimizes production work documentation as needed
- Reads, interprets and analyzes technical product drawings.
- Interprets technical procedures, writes business reports and procedures.
- Solves practical and technical problems and deals with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications
2 – 5 years of experience as a Materials Engineer, Chemical Engineer, Coatings or Manufacturing Engineer.
Experience in capacity analysis, capacity planning and product costing.
Experience in plastic injection molding environment a plus.
Must be able to work in a fast paced and dynamic team environment.
