Chiyoda USA is seeking a skilled Japanese Translator/Interpreter to join our team in Greencastle, Indiana. As a Japanese Translator/Interpreter at Chiyoda, you will play a vital role in supporting our operations and fostering strong relationships within our facility and with our global partners. The ideal candidate will have a strong command of both Japanese and English languages and possess a deep understanding of Japanese and American cultures. The successful candidate will facilitate effective communication between Japanese-speaking and English-speaking stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and cultural sensitivity in all interactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and timely translation of written documents, including technical manuals, reports, emails, and other materials related to automotive and engineering projects.
- Serve as an interpreter during meetings, presentations, and discussions between Japanese and American team members, clients, or partners.
- Ensure culturally appropriate communication by understanding and bridging differences between Japanese and American business practices and etiquette.
- Review and proofread translated materials to maintain high-quality standards.
- Collaborate with engineering and automotive teams to clarify technical terminology and context as needed.
- Assist in preparing bilingual documentation for internal and external use.
- Perform additional administrative or project-related tasks as assigned.
- Assist Japanese in understanding American culture and business practices.
- Assist Americans in understanding Japanese culture and business practices.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a translator and/or interpreter between Japanese and English.
- Fluency in Japanese and English (written and spoken), with native or near-native proficiency in both languages. Certification in translation/interpretation (e.g., JLPT N1, ATA certification) is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and translation software/tools is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of Japanese and American cultures, including business norms and communication styles.
- Comfortable with automotive and/or engineering terminology; prior experience in these fields is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in translation, linguistics, Japanese studies, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Willingness to travel internationally and domestically – less than 20% travel.
