What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Mechanic position at Choate Rosemary Hall?
The Assistant Mechanic works under the supervision of the Mechanic to service and repair school vehicles and equipment. This role performs tasks that include: replacing and repairing worn and defective parts, re-assemble mechanical components, change oil and filters, and perform other routine mechanical tasks.
This position is part-time, 25 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain trade vehicles, light service, and cleaning.
- Help service and maintain the trade equipment as necessary. This includes small engine servicing and mowers, both gas and diesel; detect and diagnose faults in engines and parts.
- Assist with dismantling and removing engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and other components, and check parts.
- Assist in repairing and replacing worn and defective parts and reassemble mechanical components and refer to service manuals as needed.
- Perform scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and engine tune-ups to achieve smoother running of vehicles and ensure compliance with pollution regulations.
- Reassemble engines and parts after being repaired.
- Test and adjust mechanical parts after being repaired for proper performance, diagnose and test parts with the assistance of computers.
- Pick up supplies as necessary.
- Deliver vehicles to repair shops and dealers as necessary.
- Assist with department housekeeping and organization.
- Most work will be performed indoors, occasionally work outdoors will be needed for vehicle breakdowns.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
- Cleaning of interior Student Transportation Vehicles.
- Exterior washing of Student Transportation Vehicles.
- Cleaning trade equipment.
