Job SummaryThe Music Therapist is responsible for providing group, individual, or family supportive therapy services to children and adolescents residing within CHOC's facilities or treatment areas. Develops and implements music therapy curriculum informed by the evidence-based models utilized on the unit. Collaborates with other interdisciplinary team members to develop and / or integrate individualized treatment plans. Develops suitable music programs for patients based on their needs, objectives, and preferred forms of creative expression.

Pay RangeMinimum $26.21 Midpoint $34.72 Maximum $43.24

Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.

Experience

  • Required : Previous and / or current experience working with infants, children, and / or adolescents.
  • Preferred : Two (2) years of professional experience as a music therapist. Previous experience with a variety of pediatric populations, including children with developmental disabilities, chronic illnesses, acute medical conditions, or mental health.

Education

  • Required : Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy from an American Music Therapy Association approved University.
  • Preferred : Master's degree in Music Therapy from an American Music Therapy Association approved University.
  • Training

  • Required : CPR Certification within 30 days of hire or transfer into position. Board Certified Music Therapist or eligibility. Application for certification to be completed within one year of hire and each year thereafter until certification is obtained.
  • Preferred : Internship, Fieldwork or Volunteer experience in the Pediatric setting.
  • Specialized Skills

  • Required : Ability to positively interact with children and families. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to prioritize and complete duties in a timely and organized manner. Ability to work in collaboration and in positive manner with others. Ability to perform duties independently. Perform work according to CHOC policies and procedures, professional standards of care, and applicable laws. Ability to set goals and judge results in accordance with the highest standards. Care with sensitivity and respect. Advance care through the development of new ideas and technology. Promote teamwork to achieve CHOC's mission. Understand and exceed customer expectations. Ability to accurately assess developmental needs of patients, establish a plan of care, evaluate effectiveness of interventions. Understanding of counseling principles and practices. Effective written and verbal skills.
  • Preferred : Bilingual skills in English and Spanish.
  • Licensure

  • Required : Music Therapist Certification; Basic Life Support (BLS). Additional certification in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Music Therapy if working in NICU
  • Work Environments - Functional Demand : Medium - High energy level Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Push / pull / - 150-200 lbs. (Patients on bed, stretcher) Lateral transfer 150-200 lbs. (ie. Patient) .

    Sensory Requirements : Color Discrimination, Depth Perception, Far Vision, Hearing, Near Vision

    Environment Requirements : Airborn Communicable Disease, Bloodborne Pathogens, Chemical, Dust Particular Matter, Extreme Noise Levels, Extreme Temperatures, Radiation, Uneven Surfaces or Elevations
