JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE : PARA-PROFESSIONAL
QUALIFICATIONS :
Must have high school diploma.
Will be expected to test for Highly Qualified Classroom Assistant, or have 48 hours of college credit or have at least an Associates Degree.
Ability to work with children, staff and parents.
Maintain confidentiality.
Physical requirements as set forth in attached physical job description.
Such alternatives to the above as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO : Principal and Assigned Teacher
EVALUATED BY : Site Principal with input from assigned teacher
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : 168 day contract. Salary to be determined as per ESPO Master Contract
JOB GOAL : To work closely with one or few handicapped pupils on a regular basis in an effort to provide them with the physical help and emotional support they need to gain as full benefits from the district's special education program as possible.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
Provide supportive help to the handicapped students as prescribed by the special education teachers.
Carry out those tasks prescribed by the special teacher in meeting the needs of students, as stated on their I.E.P.
Be able to positively meet the needs of handicapped students.
Provide support to the special teacher in looking after the safety and well being of students at school and on excursions.
Serve on placement team, I.E.P. meetings and staffing, when input is required.
Provide those services needed to help students who may soil themselves, and who may need help with ambulatory problems, eating, or other conditions that may affect their well being at school.
Work cooperatively with contracted and related services for the handicapped.
Work cooperatively with regular classroom teachers when mainstreaming in the least restrictive environment.
Help in the diagnostic evaluation of students, as requested by the special education teacher.
Serves as a resource person, if and when requested, to the student personnel evaluation team conferring about one of the students to whom assigned.
Show initiative in performing job responsibilities, act in a professional manner, maintain confidentiality in dealing with confidential folders, conferences and other aspects of information gained while working in special programs.
Be trained and able to use A / V and other equipment utilized in the special education classroom.
Be trained and provide services to students as needed to help them assess their education (example of services that may be rendered : tube feeding, catheterization, suctioning, positioning, delivering medications, etc.).
Performs other such duties as may be prescribed by supervisors.
