What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Wood Patrol Agent position at Choggiung?
Scope of Work:
Choggiung, Ltd. is soliciting a qualified individual or contractor to perform seasonal Wood Patrol duties to monitor and deter unauthorized wood harvesting and land trespass. The contractor will be expected to patrol designated Native lands regularly, document observations, engage in respectful education with land users, and report any violations.
Primary Duties:
- Patrol lands owned by Choggiung, Ltd., Aleknagik Native Limited, and Native Allotments.
- Educate land users about legal harvest areas, land ownership boundaries, and permitted use.
- Monitor and document evidence of unauthorized wood harvesting or trespass.
- Submit written patrol reports including photos, GPS points, and incident details.
- Coordinate with Land Department staff regarding follow-up enforcement or education needs.
- Maintain logs of interactions and any actions taken during patrols.
- Operate in remote conditions and changing Alaskan environments.
Minimum Requirements:
- Prior experience with outdoor field work, patrol, or natural resource protection.
- Working knowledge of local land ownership (ANCSA Corporations and Native Allotments).
- Clean driving record and ability to operate ATVs, Snow Machines, or vehicle.
- Ability to endure variable weather and terrain conditions.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Independent and responsible with minimal supervision.
Contractor Must Provide:
- Personal transportation (vehicle, snow machine, or ATV) suitable for terrain access.
- Field equipment (GPS, camera, communication device, etc.).
- Personal fuel, safety gear, and maintenance of personal equipment.
Compensation:
- Fixed per patrol rate to be negotiated based on experience and availability.
- Contractor is responsible for their own insurance, taxes, and equipment upkeep.
