Trial Litigation Paralegal

GENERAL SUMMARY

A law firm in Downtown Dallas is seeking an experienced paralegal for their litigation section. The candidate should have 10 years of litigation experience, including strong trial experience, and must be able to manage dockets independently. Bachelor’s degree or completion of 2-year program from an ABA approved paralegal school preferred. Experience with eDiscovery, Westlaw, and Court Alert or other docketing systems. Knowledge of Case Logistix and Disco is a plus. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Must also have a professional demeanor and be a self-starter with excellent written and oral communication skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Establishes and maintains calendar and deadline reminder systems. Manages calendar and assists in meeting deadlines.
• Meets with attorneys, clients and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects.
• Drafts legal documents, including routing pleadings, motions, affidavits, and discovery. Completes filings on Pacer and Filetime in accordance with judicial procedures.
• Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys.
• Interviews clients and witnesses and prepares summaries of their statements.
• Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings and other items.
• Assists attorneys with trial preparation, including attending trials and hearings as needed.
• Develops and maintains records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Adhere to Firm policies and procedures as outlined in the Firm Handbooks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

• 4 year college degree or 2 year Paralegal certificate required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes and other related matters.
