Summary
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Manager position is funded by the Lilly Endowment’s Strengthening Youth Programs in Indiana (SYPI) grant and is contingent upon continued funding and/or the organization’s fiscal ability to sustain its existence past the grant period ending September 2026. The DEI Manager plays a vital role in helping Choices assess, improve and expand the organization’s diversity efforts. The DEI Manager will work cross-functionally with the other departments to support DEI objectives. With Choices’ strategic objectives in mind, this position will assess our operations to help identify and recommend opportunities to increase current, near term and future DEI metrics. The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Manager will also work to increase employee awareness of DEI issues and implement, coach, and train on internal programs that promote inclusion, diversity, and equity. This position will regularly collaborate with leadership across all departments. The incumbent will support and uphold a commitment to racial and ethnic equity and antiracism.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews, assesses and improves Choices’ diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
- Creates awareness, energy and enthusiasm in the organization for DEI and reinforces existing commitments to create an inclusive, engaging environment where all employees can experience a sense of belonging.
- Maintains and analyzes a series of metrics that support the overall DEI strategy.
- Monitors, tracks, and analyzes effectiveness of initiatives, leading to an annual company report.
- Partners with the HR and ARE departments to track and analyze effectiveness of current practices. Implements initiatives to further the company's diversity goals.
- Partners with HR, leadership and groups devoted to advancing DEI to support diversity in attraction, retention and promotion of employees.
- Partners with the Training department to develop and present internal training on designated topics to advance employee understanding of social issues/inherent bias and promote personal and professional development.
- Partners with the Communications department to expand topics relating to DEI included in conferences, webinars, publications, podcasts, and other appropriate avenues.
- Partners across the organization to respond to client surveys and external data providers on DEI.
- Serves as DEI subject matter expert, working collaboratively with others to create tools and resources to support the adoption of practices and behaviors that enable a diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce. This includes education, programs and trainings.
- Designs and implements program metrics, including pre- and post-program measurements to assess program outcomes and effectiveness.
- Develops, coordinates and guides employee affinity groups to assist with affinity group initiatives and serve as a liaison for affinity groups to the DEI program.
- Leverages networks and builds new ones, to establish DEI partnerships and collaborations with universities, professional organizations, etc.
- Measures and communicates results against committed DEI ambitions. Guides our direction and strategies regarding where we need to focus for improvement, while telling the story of progress.
- Willingly completes other duties as assigned to advance the mission of Choices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 8 years work experience driving change, leading programs and working across multiple functions.
- 4-5 years of active experience and/or thought leadership in HR or DEI space; experience with designing and delivery of DEI programs a plus.
- Experience effectively partnering with HR and business teams to build effective talent and reward programs and strategies.
- Excellent project management skills; Experience delivering projects for cross-functional audiences.
- Strong analytic skills and the ability to think strategically and programmatically.
- Ability to communicate complex information in an approachable manner.
- High emotional intelligence (EQ) / interpersonal skills and the ability to work well across functions and navigate a complex subject matter.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage heavy workloads and multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of labor and human rights; strong intercultural competencies.
- Access to reliable transportation. If driving an automobile while on company business, must possess a valid driver’s license in state of residence and auto insurance.
