What are the responsibilities and job description for the Abortion Doula position at Choices Women's Medical Center?
ROLE:
The role of an Abortion Doula is to advocate for the rights of women and girls having an abortion while making it clear that they are not performing any medical procedures or making any decisions for the individual being accompanied. They participate in the person’s decision-making process in the creation of a termination of pregnancy plan, are present during the procedure, either by phone or in person, and ensure that the plan is followed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Abortion Support:
- Provide the patient with emotional, physical, informational and logistical support during and after the abortion
- Stay with patient throughout all aspects of the procedure.
- Provide guidance to the patient, enabling them to make informed decisions to become more informed and in control of their reproductive health
- Function as an advocate for patient needs and preferences
- Assist the patient in communicating effectively with the healthcare team
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Certification or training in doula services (preferred) with 1 years of experience as Abortion Doula
- Enroll as NYS Medicaid Doula Service Provider
- Must have an NPI number
- Continuing education in Doula competencies
- Empathy, patience, and calm demeanor
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Spanish speaking a plus
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $45.00 - $55.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 30 per week
